COMMENT ABOUT THE BAND…
Nov 12, 2015, 7:29 AM
|
|
The wife and I love the band! They’re almost as big a part of college football as the team itself, but… I noticed a couple of times this year, especially at the game against Florida State, that the band was “quiet” at critical times during the game. You know, 3rd down and we have to get a first down to keep the drive going. (Or) third or fourth down and our defense has to make a stop to stall our opponent.
The crowd needs the band at certain times during the game to get the noise and emotions going. You can’t take a break, the fans can’t take a break, and the players certainly can’t take a break. Just wanted to give my 2 cents worth so the band members make sure they keep the crowd going, especially at critical times during the game.
GO TIGERS!!!

band doesn't typically play before a critical 3rd down when we're on offense, so that the noise doesn't hinder communication on the field. That's also why the band plays a lot before a critical 3rd down on defense. Home field advantage

from most of the half time shows under Dr. Speade? One can make the same argument for the music and arrangements as well.

I think the band's action has been decreased alot in recent years because of how much music we play. And I am not complaining. The music gets the students and the players hyped.

Oh no they are playing. You just can't hear them. Product of not having a music program at Clemson.

It's the best Clemson drumline I've ever seen.

Also the largest. 9 snares, 9 cymbals, 5 tenors, 6 basses. That's comparable to FSU's drumline, GT's drumline and USuC's drumline. All of which have a music program, Clemson does not.

A bit off subject, but BAND related

Took this pick at the game last weekend as i was walking back into the WestZone after halftime. Gave me that "feel good" feeling. Go Tigers and go Tiger Band!
Been to a lot of clemson v fsu games, both home and away, and, this past weekend, definitely DID notice not hearing fsu's band at all even sitting in the west endzone. that annoying tomahawk chant was non existent. also noticed all that money spent on the recent stadium renos didn't all go towards the oculus...the speakers in the scoreboard pump serious wattage! got me amp'd(pun intended).

because she loves being right beside them, even if it's in the end zone.
The only problem I have with them is that they play right up to the snap sometimes when we're on defense. We should be loudest when they are huddling/calling the play, but the band is playing some cheer and we don't get really loud until right before the snap. I realize that they are making noise, but the people around me are more into doing the cheer than being loud. Waving your arm and yelling "defense" every now and then is not very loud. Just sayin'.

It's been my understanding that bands play only when

the defense is on the field (both teams) or after scores - that way there's no confusion as to which band gets to play when.
I really love the marching band aspect of college sports. I was just talking with a friend about how cool it is to hear band music throughout a game instead of the piped in hype music on every play like it is in pro sports. Just another aspect that makes college sports that much more enjoyable.
