Clemson road to playoffs simplified.

Nov 22, 2022, 7:30 PM

Two of the following 3 teams have to lose:
Michigan, TCU, USC

Clemson has to win both games convincingly. (No last second score to win. 10 point margins at least.)

If that doesn't happen, Clemson has no shot. (Unless something totally unexpected happens.

Bret you said Clemson was out of it?***

If 2 of the 3 teams I mentioned...

Nov 22, 2022, 7:43 PM

.... don't lose, then Clemson is out of it.

Clemson is 8th. Clemson needs to pass 4 teams to get in.

If Clemson takes care of business they will pass Bama and Oregon. That would put them at 6th.

If two of the three teams (Michigan, TCU and USC) don't lose, then Clemson will not pass them.

If two of them lose, there is no guarantee Clemson will be in (too many variations to list them all). But, there is no way they pass any of those three teams if they don't lose.

Re: If 2 of the 3 teams I mentioned...

Nov 22, 2022, 8:08 PM

Oregon is 9 - already behind Clemson. We would have to jump Bama and either USC or LSU to get to 6.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My mistake. I meant LSU, not Oregon.

Nov 22, 2022, 8:11 PM

And, in my scenario I'm assuming LSU loses to UGA. If LSU wins this weekend and beats UGA, then both of those schools will get into the playoffs.

I think USC and Michigan lose.

You are correct.

If Dabo refuses to step on the throat of SCAR and UNC we don’t deserve to be in the top. Hang 49 on both.

the game instead of keeping starters in, risking injury and running up the score. He keeps thinking about developing players instead of keeping his foot on the gas!! Like, when have we ever needed the "next man up"??

Nov 22, 2022, 7:38 PM

It a parlay, but odds may be in favor.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If all three lose...

Nov 22, 2022, 7:49 PM

.... and Clemson takes care of business I can't see any way Clemson would not be in the playoffs.

(Clemson will have beaten at least 2 teams, maybe 3 that are ranked higher than anybody Michigan has beaten. PAC 12 champ would have two losses. TCU may have an argument that they deserve to be ranked ahead of Clemson. That's why I said if only two lose it does not guarantee Clemson gets in, but if at least two don't lose I see no way Clemson gets in - unless something ridiculous happens like UGA loses to GT and LSU.)

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm thinking CU #3 in that case

Nov 22, 2022, 8:00 PM

BTW - I predicted that FSU run the table and finish top 15 many weeks ago -

Hope yall throttle the gators

Both games?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Both games?

Nov 22, 2022, 8:07 PM

Good question.

I'm not saying they need to win 49-3. But, if they eke out a victory on a last minute score, I could see the committee putting a two loss PAC 12 champion or the loser of Michigan/Ohio State or an 12-1 TCU team above them.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think based on Chair comments, all THREE of those have to

Nov 22, 2022, 8:02 PM

lose, AND LSU must lose to Georgia. That's a whole lot of IFs.

:(

No...just USC needs to lose, and Mich or TCU need to lose

Nov 22, 2022, 8:10 PM

decisively! If TCU loses a really close game, they may stay ahead of us. The same with Mich...if they lose a close one at OSU, I doubt they will drop below us.

Getting rolled by ND was (is) too much to overcome

Nov 22, 2022, 8:07 PM

IF it had been a 3-7 point loss, then maybe we stuck around #6 or 7 and would have been able to slide into the playoffs with some others losing (like UT). One can hope the stars align, but Tigers just don't have that "big game" or "scoreboard" factor to prop them up down the stretch.

Why? LSU got boat raced by Tenn and they are 5th.

The next two games will be our big game showoffs.

UNC is respected as being a good team. The coots just waxed UT's top ten butt.

Notre Dame must beat USC

Nov 22, 2022, 9:24 PM

That is the key game for our chances.

And Ohio St shouldn't get as much credit for beating Notre Dame, at that time they weren't very good and they lost to Marshall the following week. Notre Dame is much better now.

I had 30+ years of learning under Bobby Bowden. You have only had 15 or so years learning under this generation's Bobby Bowden. You can be highly competitive and still be professional and respectful of your opponent (unless he is a coot or a gator ? ).

And, as I keep reminding y'all, there is only one week a year I don't root for Clemson.

Re: Just doing my job.

Nov 22, 2022, 11:50 PM

I’m scared that a Michigan non blow-out by OSU may still result in us being left out even as ACC Champs(if we win it) even if LSU loses and USC does as well (let’s say TCU wins out). I think Clemson may have gotten a little too much love from the playoff committee early and now we’re not getting enough(they’re still over correcting). ACC has been getting dumped on all season again even though I think it’s a pretty good year for the conference overall. I don’t care if we have ACC reps on the committee or not. We should be ahead of Bama. LSU I’d need to look over again.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just win first, that’s simplified, we’ll be in the playoffs

Nov 23, 2022, 1:54 AM

That’s all we need to do, Win Win Win Win & we’ll be National Champions! Joy is the the word for this season, it’s going to be full of JOY!

80- UGA won their 1st National Championship-

81- Clemson won their 1st National Championship

21- UGA won its second National Championship

22- Clemson won their 4th National Championship

We don’t let those dawgs out for long thinking their better! It’s going to be Joyful as history repeats itself against all odds, that’s what makes the JOY sweeter!
