It’s whether you are a loyal fan or not. We did pick up a good many bandwagon fans, especially between 2016-2018 people were hopping on like crazy.

Its definitely more of a thing for USoC with snowbirds and Northeastern folk that moved here. They think they gotta pull for the state College USuC, not realizing that Clemson is actually a state school in the state they moved too. So you have these idiot fans that think they gotta pull for Coots.
My aunt and uncle moved here from Iowa and became Coot fans knowing that I was a Clemson grad. They thought Clemson was out of state so they pulled for what they thought was the state college.
Clemson is definitely incognito living in it's little Corner of SC heaven. That's fine let Clemson remain as a state nugget and let the yahoo's pull for the Coots!

I ran into a relatively young Bama fan at a golf outing in 2018 or 2019 and he said something like that. Said all Clemson fans were bandwagon fans because you never saw anyone wearing Clemson gear before then. I told him I graduated in 1984 and my daughter was the Tiger Cub mascot from 2015-2017 and that I have Clemson shirts that are probably older than he is. I also asked him what his ties to Alabama were and he didn’t have an answer. I’m not saying you have to be a graduate to be a fan or anything like that but the definition of a bandwagon fan is someone who jumps on board AFTER the team becomes successful. And they usually jump off at the first sign of anything they don’t agree with. A lot of them are probably already gone on to the next shiny new thing.
