Catching up/coordinators/bowl/Swinney

Dec 6, 2021, 11:22 AM

Checking in a little late this morning. I waited to do my Heisman vote til after the championship games (as everyone should), and yesterday was a little busy. After this morning (took the 3-year old to get his cast redone in Greenville, a nice shade of orange), it feels like nap time already.

As for players - I know everyone is concerned about players leaving/transferring. I hope I can provide a little hope there - one of the things I know CDS likes to tell recruits is that you date the coaches but marry the school. In other words, don't make a decision based on a coach who may leave. Make the decision on who you're going to be happy with for four years, and 10 and 20 years from now. Once everything settles, things are going to look better for everyone involved. Things just take time, and no one has patience.

Second - no one seems to know if Brent Venables will coach the bowl game. My guess is no considering he has a recruiting class to save in Norman? Maybe move Mike Reed to DC and Wes Goodwin or DeAndre McDaniel to CB coach for now (Wes has actually filled that job before).

Football SID Ross Taylor doesn't know when CDS will return and address the team. I jokingly told one SID this morning that based on what I am seeing on social media and what people are asking me, the program is done. A shambles. And to please let me know when they are going to shutter the doors and put a for sale sign in front of Death Valley. But when it comes to Swinney, I have heard from someone close that he already seems rejuvenated and energized. Maybe a little change and some fresh blood will do everyone some good. Honestly, can't wait to speak to him and get a gauge on where he stands.

Lastly - everyone wants to know names of who might be a replacement. I've heard it will be an outside hire, but until I hear from CDS? I'll take that for what its worth. And I don't think I am going to run a click-baity "possible replacements" headline like others because that is all just guess work, and you can do that on your own. Besides, some of the ones I've read make little or no sense and some are almost laughable. I'll try and save it for when I have some real intel. I've been texting coaches and people around the game and I'm starting to get a good sense of some names, but again, there will be clarity later.

Anyway, I've brushed off the chimney dust and don't appear to have poison ivy. If someone wants to bring me a meal (Nikki had knee surgery Thursday, good ole Doc Bowman) and it's rough around here, I am craving a lasagna. And a nap.
