No doubt the Federal government has its hands in way more issues than it should.Way more!
However,I'm not sure it's going to be a great idea for each state suddenly to have the upper hand over the Federal government and essentially to override the laws of the Federal government.
John C Calhoun got his ### handed back to him by Andrew Jackson over the Nullification Crisis when it looked like SC was going to secede from the Union.
One Carolina born dude, Andrew Jackson beat back another Carolina dude John C Calhoun to preserve the Union. Had SC prevailed, the entire union may well have unraveled.

well, this would work out better for them than it would for a small welfare state like SC, Califonia and New York have economies larger than most developed nations in Europe. south Carolina has all the makings of a 3rd world country when you remove government handouts. So if you want your independence, I say go for it, but you still owe your share of the national debt, which again, per capita, would not work out well for you.

I actually do believe we have too many cooks in the kitchen. Let local people control the states. Texas is ignoring feds on border control now. Feds have no business sticking their nose in ours.

Yes have states make their own Gun and abortion laws. In fact Supreme Court most recent ruling says states can regulate abortion laws, which they do and have for many years.
All border states are for closing off borders. The federal government is not so you got that backwards. It’s the northern states that want borders open. You last one made me lol. There is no one being threatened to be arrested for not agreeing with climate change. It’s not called global warning and has not been for 10 years.
Traditionally It’s the dems who want a strong federal government to tell you what to do. Republicans want hands off.

Except federal laws often pre-empt state laws as it relates to encroachment

on individual liberty. States are every bit as insidious when it comes to running roughshod over individual liberty as the Feds, and you need one to check the other. It's why you can't just nullify federal laws, or allow states to do so.

Likewise local governments excel at managing development.
SC being ranked 45th in education demonstrates the type of excellence that our State can achieve! I remember when we were 49th!
SC ranks in the top 20% of violent crime, but that’s better than being in the top 10%. And we are 11th in poverty rate!
So heck yeah, based upon the stellar performance and metrics, let’s give SC state government more responsibility!!!!

But today "states rights" rhetoric is used to justify the same sort of anti-individual rights behavior they claim to hate at the federal level, and wrongly assume states are immune from the type of government incompetence you mention here.

State government is also incompetent no doubt. I think federal are more corrupt, more inept and untouchable in many cases. IMO fed governnent Is here to protect our country with arm services and little else.

Sounds like a great idea. Being born and raised in the south, I think we know who we don't want going to our schools along with our kids. Also, we probably need to look at who can vote. We can't have those people being treated the same as the others on this board.
