Because Clemson is such an easy place to recruit for bball..

It's like playing Spades with a handful of mid-ranking cards. Dont worry though, if we build it, they will come...those facilities cant get here fast enough...

There is nothing intrinsically unique about Clemson that

prevents us from recruiting much better than we do.

recruiting is actually on an uptick

Brownell had terrible luck early on in his tenure here and but we are starting to turn the corner from a recruiting standpoint. (Note: I doubt we'll ever recruit at the level of the big boys, but we won't have to with Brownell as coach)

Maybe a little, but it's got to get better still. No reason

it can't. Maybe not under Brownell, I don't know; but it can be done at Clemson.

Recruiting will get better (as it already has)

but if we can't find some consistency offensively it won't matter. We just need to average 65pts a game to be among the top 5 in the ACC. We are around 62 right now.
I think we'll hit that mark next year and be an NCAA tournament team. Still a ton of unknowns (PG position namely) but I'm going out on a limb early and say we'll make it next year.

this point. It will require several of our current players to be dramatically improved next year, and at least one newcomer to be ready to play full-tilt at this level pretty much from the get-go.

I don't see it necessary to be dramatically improved

Maintain the defensive consistency and just improve offensively by 5pts on average.
Blossomgame, Roper and Grantham will improve (Grantham could be the key development here)
Nnoko has to stay out of foul trouble, but he didn't take the next step like I thought he would.
The x factor will be the PG transfer. How he plays will determine how far we can go next year. But even without him, I think we can be a NCAA tournament team.
We will again finish somewhere right behind the big boys in the conference, and starting next year we probably jump one or two of them.

Yes there is ST. We are in a rural area. Most high profile hoops kids are city kids. The sell is tough. Good thing BB doesn't need high profile kids to succeed.

It should not be hard when you are vying with Mercer, Charlotte and Shorter.

No way. The majority of top basketball recruits only go to college for one reason. To get to the NBA. You have to have a coach that not only facilitates that process but supports it. And your university cannot frown on the one year or two year and done player. Its not the facilities its the geography and lack of rich basketball tradition. Because of this, Clemson will never be able to build that you have to buy it by investing in a big time name for a coach who has the relationships and reputation of getting players to the next level. You might say, look at Clemson football. Clemson football has always had a rich tradition and put many players in the NFL. It just took the right personnel and personalities to resurrect it.

I agree. There are two options, have phenomenal facilities (locale doesn't hurt) or a big name/results producing coach. Clemson is putting all their eggs into facilities because you can't pay coaches with revenue bonds...and then maybe they can secondarily score some coaches at bargain because of the opportunity or they generate more money along the way to shell out for a big name. Only stepping stone and mediocre coaches will coach at a place with mediocre facilities and support with all the options out there now.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not a fan of drad and what he's done to the morale/climate in the AD, he's not a people person, strictly business. he's here for a short time to get 2 things done, execute implementation of building our facilities to top tier status and set us up for recruiting and winning championships.
The next guy will be the "good" ad

We made the NCAA Tournament 4 years in a row and did nothing to build off that. That is extremely concerning.

That is on OP. His recruiting fell off. And our recruiting took another hit when he left (like it does with ANY coaching change). And all that up and you got what we have. Thread bare senior class 3 years in. BB is just now recovering from that. Our best players are a so and fr. Anyone who wants another change and more recruiting woes due to that change are simply not thinking about the program. They had rather try and satisfy their need for immediate gratification. Selfish really.
