Took out a large tub and shower and made a large shower
Jan 10, 2022, 8:20 AM

but added a small linen closet which works great.
We had only one sink and made it a double.
We went with a regular shower head, but I wish we had added the lower shower head/handle option - wife talked me out of it and now she wishes we had it.

which I guess is what they call a regular bathtub these days, or a whirl pool.
I told her, a whirlpool can be a soaking tub but a soaking tub can not be a whirlpool.
So we are going with the whirlpool.

motors go bad, cracks develop in the plumbing for the jets, and they get some nasty, nasty mildew built up in their plumbing if you aren't using them every day or two (you won't). Go to the average house and fill up a whirlpool tub and turn the jets on and on 90% of them a bunch of black particles will blow out at first into the tub. Keep it simple.

easy to clean, don't care if it looks cheaper than tile. Also just did a big tub, no jets. People say they never use them, and they get mildewy if you don't. Wife wanted the big tub, but hardly ever uses it either. I think I've been in it once or twice, when she was.

glass door that is fun for me to watch wife, not fun for kids to bug the sh>it out of one of us when we are using it.
Whatever our shower walls are made out of, it is a poured material that, when you use white, is nice and reasonably affordable. When you use whatever coca color we have with extra dots of color in there, it added to the price unexpectedly. Also, the frameless glass door was much more expensive than the framed one, but we wanted that look. Also, this stuff may be cheap AF now, this was 6 or so years ago when we did ours.

Panels. There is a 4" curb in there though, so it does have a threshold.
Got a nice transom above the acrylic panels, lets morning light in and makes some sweet as>s Dark Side of the Moon colors on the wall when it passes through the door.

THE SHOWER HEAD.
no matter how roomy, how fancy the tile, door vs curtain, number of hot/cold knobs, or where the towel hanger is located.....if you got a crap shower head, you have a crap shower experience.
INVEST IN THE SHOWER HEAD.

after 4 years of those power showers, I cannot settle for less than a 5gpm flow rate. The Federal mandate max is like 2.5 gpm, but I just cannot live that way.
And you are correct, those Clemson-issued silver metal dorm chairs were PERFECT shower companions. Done many a time to try and mitigate hangovers.

but if you take a tiny o-ring out of the 1.75 gal, I think that's what you get. I think they get around some regulations about flow by having the 2 separate heads in one. You do probably have to buy a longer shower arm to make room for it. It's the 2nd one I've bought- moved the old one up to the upstairs bathroom when we updated it, and bought a new one for the master bath.

They're adding on 300 sq feet to your house, complete

with new exterior walls/framing, roof, foundation and completely finished out interior....for $25k.
Redoing our bath with no sq footage added was $35k, in the old price construction market. I see a lifetime's worth of FBC biching about contractors threads from this one.

It's going to end up more than 25k but it gives us some wiggle room

He's also putting down real hardwood floor in the master bedroom. He just isn't sanding and finishing it.

"real estate prowess"??
Jan 10, 2022, 10:30 AM
|
|
Please. You sold a house for a cost of a new pickup truck to apparently, an idiot.
There was no "prowess"; you got lucky, and probably lied about half of what really happened.
When somebody promises me something that sounds to good to be true, I get skeptical, but that's just me. I know I'm stupid and all; and its not like I've already gone through all this before when you were in elementary school.
So that's why I said "good luck". I hope they end up building the Taj Mahal back there for you.

So I've redone two of them...

Tiled the walls around the shower - tricky, but if you do a good job, it looks great. Everybody who sees it loves it. Spring for some nice tile. I went to one of those tile-specific stores and let some gay dude help us come up with a scheme for the whole room... shower tile, floor tile, accent tiles, grout color, etc. Spent more than I wanted, but it looks awesome. By far the nicest room in my house.
add a bidet to your toilet. Team Bidet, 110% "If you're gonna use the bidet 110%, then keep your filthy ASS off my toilet seat!" - Frank Howard
I went with Kraftmaid cabinets/vanity. It's factory made stuff, but it's nice. I've bought the cheapo Project Source branded stuff at Lowes and finished them myselves.... and that's fine for laundry rooms and areas that don't get frequent use. Kraftmaid stuff will hold up much better, though.

My walk-in shower is too big. I think 4x4 would be perfect.
Jan 10, 2022, 11:00 AM

Ours is basically 4 x 6 and so the bench is too far away and a little drafty. Poor planning. It looks amazing, but if it were 4 x 4, then the bench would be more useful...not that I sit in the shower anyway, but it would give you a better option than awkwardly angling your head.
Think my perfect shower would be 4 x 4 with frameless glass door. A rain head coming straight down from the ceiling. The normal shower head angling down. And then the removeable wand head.

How much space do you have?

We can offer guidance from there. Our minimum requirements: 1. A private toilet room 2. Double sink 3. Bench in shower
Our preferences: - We removed a bath to make a bigger shower (so big it doesn’t require a door) - Added a 2nd shower head that’s adjustable - extra drawers that soft close

I wish we mapped out where the towel rods would be hung, then added extra wood to drill into. Our towel rods keep ripping out of drywall and need a more solid anchor
