AT&T interwebs

Mar 6, 2018, 10:11 AM

Anyone have ATT internet (formerly U-verse)? I'm switching to it from comcast since the best comcast could do for me was $50/mo for 100mbps. ATT is $30 for 50mbps which should be plenty fast for the wife to watch netflix. Might also use it to download tons of pron for the next 6-7 weeks. I'm a little worried about their modem/router combo but I read that I can disable the ATT wifi and use my TP-Link router instead.

I'm having 1000 mbps installed Sunday morning

Imagine how many concurrent pron streams I can have going.

Please forgive me, @IneligibleUser

I've had 1 gig for over 2 years.....

wood never go back to anything lower. No worries about speed ever....period...pron included

I've had AT&T 1 Gig for about 2 months now.

It rucking focks. Completely reliable, $80 a month, and smokes the glitchy 150M Xfinity I had before.

I bridged their router and use my Netgear Orbi as my router.

Can I use their wifi and my own router concurrently? I'd like to put a router out back in my shed if I can.

Also did they dump the phone line? What service do they run to the house? Coax?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, you can do that

WE have AT&T at work. The AT&T wifi is available, but I set up better routers that we actually use.

The fun from the street is actual fiber optic cable.

Their router is required, but you just set it to bridge mode and disable wifi (effectively making it a modem) and then use your router.

My service isn't fiber, they don't have fiber available in my area. Not sure why not. Fastest ATT i can get its 75 mbps. Comcast has 1 gig i think but its expensive.

I'm trying to think of a reason one would need faster than

75mbps at home. What are y'all doing that requires these speeds? Hacking the Pentagon or something? I stream all of our TV on somewhere around 65mbps and never have any issues with speed.

Is there something wrong with AT&T's router?

Mar 6, 2018, 10:19 AM [ in reply to I've had AT&T 1 Gig for about 2 months now. ]

Or is the Orbi just a booster/extender to get more coverage in the house?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Their router is fine but I prefer the Orbi and

Mar 6, 2018, 10:23 AM

it has a satellite for broader coverage like you mentioned.

I'm getting 500M down/up off the satellite alone.

I do, but not near that fast because I'm a mile from the

closest splitter. It can be a touch slow but my only other option is HughesNet.

Still for $30 it's fine.

I'm a little nervous. My parents had ATT DSL in the late 00's. It was absolute trash. I could barely play call of duty 4 on xbox live. I'm sure they've made leaps since then. Hope it doesn't suck dink.

Better hope not, because as I've expressed previously on

here, it's impossible to cancel without going to war with them. I wonder if part of the reasoning for outsourcing to India is to keep the workers safe.
