My brother-in-law lived in Elberton for several years. I remember the entrance to a fancy looking golf course being way up on a hill. Is that it? The name doesn't ring any bells.

It’s important, but not as important as keeping and developing players. That’s why some teams make the playoffs every year and win multiple national championships while others crown themselves pre-season or recruiting champion while having not won a real championship for 4 decades.

You're not wrong. I'd add not having in-conference competition as another factor in makin the playoffs every year.

Clemson has the best program in the country. It's also true that they don't play in a particularly tough conference.

It appears to me Alabama does not play in a tough conference and neither does Clemson. I would suggest that speaks to the individual teams and not the conference.
I agree that recruiting is the lifeblood of a program but if the coaching staff fails to develop that talent, it's a liability. Some programs are noted for that. And there are programs that can take average talent and win championships.

Leading up to the 2018 National Championship game, a lot what was being discussed was Clemson’s “lack of competition “ being their Achilles Heel. Clemson was only credited with having beat Notre Dame as a worthy opponent.
Finebaum was one of the leaders of this “speak” but there were others as well.

What has recruiting well done for Georgia? You know, besides

absolutely nothing.
Since the modern era of college football began in 1981, Georgia has zero national championships. What has your average recruiting ranking been?

Thankfully not all programs understand to develop the right fit instead of just getting the most raw talent.

Kirby being a Recruiter but not a good coach plays the biggest role in Georgia watching the playoffs on TV yearly. Do Less With More U can beat their chest all they want over recruiting. Georgia making records with having more 5 stars to never win the dance. Hope Kirby stays for many many years.
