Apparently, several schools offered big money to Christopher Vizzina.

Thanks for posting this. I'd missed it. Very telling. Nah, we're doing it right. I honestly think that nil pendulum will swing in the near future. But yes, there was a thread where posters were debunking narduzzi statements and saying it was a lie Yada Yada.
It's real. Plenty of tampering going on. I just wish it'd backfire on uga and tosu as it has on jumbo fish.
If you dig deeper into the TI thread, great Rivals interview with Dabo. Excellent move getting portal QB.

will be rewarded in the long run. Use portal very sparingly and don’t get in bidding wars for players. If $$ is their main concern, not sure you want them anyway.

I was young and dumb enough to want the next biggest best thing but I'm a lot more satisfied with our program and how the NIL/portal is handled now than when it started.
Imo, Dabo is doing best not chasing rainbows.

Yeah it really is. The good thing is we have an amazing nil and business model set up. Fortunately the kids and parents get to learn about it when they're here.
Plus one for chasing rainbows . Good one!

in the world of college football; there is no denying or disputing that. Still, the basic idea of amatuer college students repesenting their chosen school, with school spirit and loyalty maintained, at least to some extent is done. Now, that is rapidly all becoming a complete joke. Unless there are major, sweeping changes made pretty quickly, the great sport of college football, along with everything that makes it unique and special, is gone. It is being replaced with a pay-for-play sport that will serve as the minor leaugue for the NFL, with little school loyalty or school spirit.
As a grumpy old white man who loves traditional college football, I am not interested in being part of that. I don't care if it means falling behind or losing games. I don't care if it means some sort of realignment or split that differentiates between the semi-pro NFL minor league, and true amatuer college football. I'm pretty sure that's where this is all headed anyway, as what we have now is not sustainable.

Dabo will have a hard decision too make in the next couple of years. Cade has 3 years left and if he continues too shine,Dabo will need to give Vizzina ample playing time or lose him to the portal.

How about young mercenaries'..Take my talents to the highest bidder and the heck with developing culture, skills and most important loyalty to an institution. Just look at the FEARED Wagner Group in the Ukraine.

I don't like the portal, but how is it different from most businesses in America - offering the best talent in any field more money to come work for the strongest companies.

In business, one gets paid for past performance with a track record and history of continued performance. In NIL collegiate athletics, one gets paid for unproven potential performance with very little track record in the field. Very different.

I think most players in the portal have shown some level of performance - and they get offers from schools to which that level is acceptable.

This is an interesting aspect of the portal that I have not seen discussed much. Perhaps Dabo uses the portal only sparingly to get new players to fill much-needed gaps. I agree with most here that that may be, in the long run, a very viable alternative.
But what about keeping our current players from jumping to the portal. Should we modify playing time a bit to entice our current players to stay ? I think in some positions (DL, RB, WR) we do a good job of rotating at least two deep. Is it possible to run an effective team and give more playing time in other positions. That is an interesting idea - and not just at QB.

Gives us a small glimpse into what is going on in recruiting these days. Many parents are choosing the quick money rather than who is mentoring their child for the next 4 years. Money VS character building. These programs signing all these 5 stars are sweetening the pot. If they will do this for a 4 star QB what will they do for these top 5 stars. The National Championship is become more meaningless each and every year. Those that win get some temporary happiness over what their money has bought. If you can’t appreciate Dabo then you fall into that category.

This exactly the reason that we only offered 125ish players, 26 committed. Compare that to some of these other schools, they offer everybody and see what sticks. Our staff chooses people first, player second- not saying that they never miss but I like our percentage.

I raised this question before - If players become categorized as employees, how can eligibility limits be enforced ?
