C. Ard says worst loss ever... this is why I disagree

Sep 21, 2014, 1:35 PM

He compares it to 2004 GT loss. That's silly.

The difference is that Clemson was AWFUL in 2004. That team was irrelevant in college football. Clemson wasn't ranked and they lost to an unranked Tech team in 2004. We were heartbroken and angry, but no one else heard about it.

Clemson is on another level now, period. 2004? Gimme a break.

It hurts to lose and yes we gave it away, but the game mattered, and that's the difference. Our kicker is ridiculous, and Ryan Norton... well, I don't know what to say about that, but we also brought a true freshman QB off the bench and #### near knocked off the #1 team in their house.

Last night's result was painful, but I remember 2004, and this team, this program, is so far beyond that. Today sucks, but the future is bright.

Go tigers.

PS please help my pulse I think I might have said something negative in 2009 and got a thumbs down...

I have to disagree with you

I don't think it is silly to compare them because I was at the GT game and know how I felt. It is a perspective and opinion. Some may think that game was worse and others this one. I think they were both about as bad but may give the nod to this one because of the blown opportunity, and it was actually watched by most of the country. Last night was like Carrie at the prom with everyone staring.

fair enough. I was there too and yes sir it was pretty bad. My point is more about the overall "health" of the program I guess.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I understand; we weren't as good overall then

Sep 21, 2014, 1:45 PM

BTW, I'm lucky I didn't end up in jail that night. I lost it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The only comparison w/that 2004 GT loss

Sep 21, 2014, 1:51 PM [ in reply to I have to disagree with you ]

and last night is both had awfully bad high snaps in them, albeit the GT snap was on a punt. Last night was one of the worst losses I can remember in my lifetime.

Re: C. Ard says worst loss ever... this is why I disagree

Agree with Ard. I watch a lot of football and I am still trying to think of a game where a team dominated that much and found multiple ways to lose. It is a terrible loss because we won everywhere except the scoreboard. We were the far superior team and managed to find ways to lose. I said it when Dabo was hired and I will say it now- I long for the days of having a coach who can win games from the sideline instead of the altwrnative. We win in spite of out head coach and it has been that way for a long time. Clemson deserves more. Heckuva recruiter. Not so much game coach.

maybe you're right

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i thought i saw where clemson has faced #1, 3 or 4 times

Sep 21, 2014, 1:49 PM

prior - ever.

this opportunity was huge and there for the taking. our defense played extraordinary at times, even dominated; our offense failed in the red zone; horribly.

you can not let these opportunities slip. 4 or 5 times in how many games? they just don't come along that often.

you have to find a way to walk thru the door when it's open for you.

I stand by my post but I also agree with you 100%

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In terms of the "give away a golden opportunity" factor, it

Sep 21, 2014, 1:54 PM

has to be at or near the top. That just can't be spun.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's the worse loss I can remember from the standpoint

Sep 21, 2014, 1:54 PM

Of having so many opportunities to win the game.

Missed fg
Missed fg
Missed td pass
Missed block on screen
Fumble
Stumble on pass
Bad snap
Bad call before snap
Short yardage in ot
Not having a fg kicker in ot

The list goes on... Literally one of those goes right and we probably win the game

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually, we were ranked. We were coming off a 9-win season

Sep 21, 2014, 2:03 PM

with a really strong finish and we were 1-0 after beating Wake Forest. That loss started a string of 4 straight losses. Pretty tough to take that one too.

He must have never watched the 2012 Orange Bowl...

Chris Ard is a hack.

Re: C. Ard says worst loss ever... this is why I disagree

The biggest difference is that in 04 we had the game all but won when we had inches to go for the clinching first down. You know what transpired after having the game supposedly wrapped up. Last night we controlled much of the game but our errors led to our downfall. It did not seem as sudden a defeat as 04. Last night felt more like Auburn and FSU 10 to me. When we made errors they did not cost us the game at the moment but I had the feeling at the time each error would bite us in the rear. Now in the big picture the loss is damaging due to the high stakes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This loss is at least as bad as the GT game.***
