Greetings Clemson fans I come in peace

Rutgers fan here excited for our first NCAA tournament in 30 years. I see our schools pretty similar right now. Both had big wins earlier on than sort of sputtered with up and down performances in the 2nd half but both did enough to land in the field. Think both teams struggle putting up points. I expect a good game but I believe Rutgers is more battled tested and will prevail 69-61

No doubt on being tested. The Big East is the premier league

imo even though I do love the ACC.
UCONN, St Johns, Villanova, Georgetown, etc... Those are the real deal teams. Haven't watched Rutgers this year, but any Big East team scares me in the tourney.
Obviously, we had to deal with Duke and UNC, so we will see what happens.

No? When did that happen. Next you are going to tell me that our win over Maryland did not count towards our 10-6 ACC finish.

More "battle tested" based on what?
Mar 15, 2021, 3:13 PM
|

getting completely outclassed in a 90-68 loss to Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament where you also got out rebounded something like 44 - 12?
No shame in losing to Illinois because they're a pretty #### good team, but "more battle tested"? Not sure I agree with that assessment.
Rutgers may well win the game on Friday but, if so, it won't have anything to do with being "more battle tested". If you win, and that's a big if, it will be because you played better on Friday.
There's a reason this game is effectively a "pick'em".

After blow-out wins against Chicago State and NC A&T...

Illinois went 3 - 3 in their next six games.
I think it's fair to say Illinois was a little better at the end of the season then they were early on.

I actually love when we get some insight from other fans... But be forewarned, predicting a win with little more than subjective "we are more battle tested" really doesn't help us Clemson fans learn about your team. How about giving these a shot for us:
1) What does Rutgers do the best (i.e.- make 3 pointers, rebound, etc...)
2) What is Rutgers biggest weakness? (i.e- free throws etc)
3) How would you describe Rutgers style of play? (i.e.- bully ball, fast paced, etc..)
4) Who are the Rutgers players to know on offense and defense?
5) What were some memorable games during the season?(wins and losses)?
6) What are your impressions of Clemson's team? any games stand out that you watched? (or are you making this prediction without knowing anything about the Tigers?)
7) If ___________ happens, I think Rutgers wins.
8) If ___________ happens, I think Clemson wins.
9) What are your impressions of Clemson's team? any games stand out that you watched? (or are you making this prediction without knowing anything about the Tigers?)
10) What you feel will most likely happen in the game? (we got your score prediction already)
If you truly come in peace, give us some info.

They are pretty good depending upon which team actually shows-up to play.
The key is to block-out and keep them off the boards. They generally lose when they get out-rebounded.

I think you will have a hard time putting up 69 points. if you do, I think you can win. But I expect the D to play like they can and you won't be close to 69 points.

I don't buy that the B10 is significantly better this year, nor is it "battle tested". I think the B10 played fewer games OOC compared to in conference based on a share of total games played. Playing more in a closed loop does not make one battle tested. We did not sputter down the stretch and were 7-3 in our final 10 games (vs Rutgers being 5-5). We did not have a home loss either...
Of the top 5 teams in the ACC, in the B10/ACC challenge, the B10 only beat one of those teams - Virginia Tech. On the Reverse, the ACC only beat 1 of the 4 top B10 teams so there is little comparison there. I think the B10 was stronger earlier in the season but the ACC teams hit strides more later. So can't really pin down the B10 being a lot stronger other than having 1-2 more dominant teams in Mich and Illinois while UVA just seemed offkilter much of the season.

Most of us are happy to have opponents' fans, as long as they are rational and civil.
A few of us embarrass the rest.
All of us love our Tigers, win or lose. Who knows which Tiger basketball team shows up, so I wouldn't hazard a guess. If y'all are consistent, you likely win.
In any event, congratulations on making it. That's a long wait.

we are very much similar. We also do not know which Rutgers team shows up night to night and even within the game itself. Take our last 2 games vs Indiana.....We dug a 23-8 hole and then went on a 47-12 run to go up 20. The game in the Big 10 tourney we were down to Indiana 21-11 and then went outscored them 50-29 the rest of the way...when we are bad, we are bad, when good we are good

No idea what to expect from the game. When Clemson is on they are formidable. Sometimes we just don't show up like we can. I guess that's basketball.

Just my .02 cents...

Rutgers is one of the best defensive teams in the B1G. They lead the league with 7.9 steals per game and rank ninth nationally with 5.2 blocks per game.
Rutgers offense runs through and around Ron Harper Jr. Harper, a junior, leads the team with 15.4 points per game and ranks second with 5.9 rebounds. He has already scored more than 1,000 points in his career, reached double figures 20 times this season and 48 times overall. He also made the late-season watch list of top 20 players being considered for the Wooden Award given to the best player in the country.
The kid can play.

Here's game scenarios:
1. Clemson comes out hot, builds a big lead at half, goes stone cold after the half, loses the lead, then wins by a couple. (12%) 2. Clemson plays close in the first half, goes stone cold at the beginning of the 2nd half, comes roaring back and loses by 5 or less (most common scenario in my 40+ years of watching Clemson B ball). (46%) 3. Clemson Comes out, scores 16-22 in the 1st half and is never in it. (37%) 4. They come out play like they can and drub Rutgers (5%)
I think I've got a real future in this line of work.
