2016 catcher and right-handed pitcher Owen Griffith from Aiken, South Carolina (South Aiken HS) has committed to Clemson while on an unofficial visit to Clemson on Thursday afternoon.

TigerNet spoke with Griffith moments after his commitment and he was excited to a member of the 2016 Clemson recruiting class.

"Coach Monty took me around campus an he introduced me to Coach Dabo because I told him I was a Clemson football fan which blew my mind," said Griffith.

Griffith was also able to check out the academic side of Clemson. "He showed me all the academic centers for athletes and I was impressed by everything."

He decided that there was no reason to continue his college recruitment and pledged for the Tigers. "And after talking it over with my family I decided that I didn't want to go anywhere else."

The Tigers are recruiting him as a pitcher and he has only been pitching since April. He throws a 88-91 MPH fastball.

Some of the other schools that were recruiting him were Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Citadel and South Carolina.

The 2016 pitcher recruit is the 9th commitment (2015-2017) for Lee since he has taken over as head coach at Clemson.

Perfect Game scouting report - Owen Griffith is a 2016 C with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Aiken, SC who attends South Aiken. Medium frame, lean athletic build with room to fill. Long uppercut swing, power translated well into game at-bats and had a standout performance that included a 3-for-3 game with three doubles. Good leverage to create power, projectable strength portends for developing present doubles power further. Strong arm behind the plate, long arm action, projects well defensively with live actions, good footwork.Excellent student. Named to the Southeast Underclass Showcase Top Prospect Team.
