by - Assoc. Editor -

The Clemson Football team won their first National Championship since 1981 in a thrilling 35-31 win over Alabama this past season.

The Tigers are champions on the gridiron and also ranked No. 1 in lowest crime rates on campus nationwide according to a new report by CollegeStats.org.

"Of the 100 schools that we looked at, Clemson University, in South Carolina, had the lowest rate of crime by far," the website stated. "Beyond just having a safety website that students can access, they also have a school safety Twitter account with over 6,000 followers that regularly updates with alerts and pictures of known assailants."

Clemson had the lowest crime rate with .0020 crimes per 1,000 students according to the data set.

Clemson University President Jim Clements tweeted the following after learning of the low crime ranking.

"Another #1 ranking!" Clements posted. "This is a great example of the campus culture we have at Clemson."
