Basketball: Tigers Pull Away From Pesky PC

CLEMSON - K.C. Rivers scored five straight points in less than a minute in the second half Wednesday night, helping No. 24 Clemson pull away from surprisingly sticky Presbyterian College, 74-57.

The game was played at Littlejohn Coliseum, and improves the Tigers to 4-0.

Presbyterian had pulled within 56-53 with 7:29 remaining on a jumper by Al'Lonzo Coleman. Seconds later, Rivers scored on a layup to push the lead back to five, and on the Tigers' next two possessions the junior hit 3-of-4 free throw opportunities for a 61-53 advantage.

After a Bryan Bostic layup for PC cut the margin back down to six, Terrence Olglesby responded for Clemson with a 3-pointer and James Mays followed on the next possession with a dunk for a 66-55 lead.

The Blue Hose never cut the margin under double digits again.

Rivers led the Tigers with 18 points, while Cliff Hammonds added 14. Mays chipped in with 13, and David Potter came off the bench with 10.

Coleman topped PC with 18 points, while Pat Kiscaden had 16.

Clemson is back in action at Noon Saturday, hosting Gardner-Webb.
