CLEMSON RECRUITING

Tigers Add Commitment from Instate Linebacker

by - Correspondent -

CLEMSON -- Allendale-Fairfax linebacker Courtney Vincent (6-1, 220) gave a verbal committment to the Clemson Tigers on Monday, accepting an offer that he got several weeks ago while at camp. Vincent, rated by SCVarsity as a Top Twenty Prospect in the Class of 2004, looked extremely well in the workouts. He has excellent speed (sub 4.6) and is very athletic. His agility is a tribute to his overall athleticism. "They've been after him pretty hard," said Coach Carlos Cave of Clemson's recruiting of Vincent. "They showed a little more interest than the others, and I'm sure that was something he thought about when he made his decision. I know he's one of the top players I've coached and certainly among the best in the state. "He tweeked his ankle a little at the Carolina camp this past weekend, but even before that, he felt that he wasn't really high on their linebacker list. He felt there were two in-state guys they liked better and that, along with their depth at the position had a lot to do with his decision." Vincent made his decision known to Coach David Blackwell, Clemson's recruiting coordinator, on Monday morning. He was recruited by Clemson assistant Ron West. Vincent was also being recruited by South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, and SC State. South Carolina had Vincent for a one day camp and Tennessee wanted to get him there for a look as well. Stay with SCVarsity.com for continuing coverage of the Palmetto State's top athletes.
