Clemson signee Robert Smith wanted to honor former Clemson and Woodland star and current Detroit Lions corner Tye Hill by holding up his jersey after he signed with Clemson Wednesday.

"I just wanted to have him represented," Robert Smith told the Times and Democrat. "He helped me, and that reminded me that if I can do some of the things he did that I can get to the NFL just like he did."

Smith said the Tigers have mentioned the possibility of him working in a Wildcat package on offense, but realizes his future is as a defensive back.

"I know that defense will be the main focus," he said. "I played quarterback all of my life, but I'm using this as motivation. I want to show that I can make it on defense too, that I'm not just a quarterback and that I am an athlete. I'm going to use that as motivation. No matter where they put me at on the field, I'm going to work hard."
