Rising-sophomore defensive end Xavier Thomas from Florence, South Carolina has Clemson in his top five on Wednesday afternoon according to his Twitter account.
His other top schools included Florida State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. Most recruiting analysts consider him the top South Carolina prospect for the 2018 recruiting cycle. Thomas has early offers from Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Nebraska, South Carolina and Tennessee. Clemson offered on 6/9/15. "I loved talking and learning from every coach out there," Thomas told TigerNet in June during his visit for the 2015 Dabo Swinney Football Camp. "I love everything about Clemson, the coaches, players, facilities, it was just the pride everyone had for Clemson," said Thomas. "I love it because everyone supports Clemson. I mean everywhere I went I saw orange or either a paw or tiger or something that represents the pride they have for Clemson." His mother who has reportedly been a Gamecock fan over the years came away impressed with the Tigers. "My mother felt at home and very welcomed while talking to the coaches. I was also able to run down the hill." Thomas could see himself one day donning the Clemson jersey and playing football in Death Valley. "I know the tradition and I felt honored maybe one day I will be running down that hill with a Clemson uniform on." In his first eight games as a freshman, he had 48 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. For the season (in 10 games), he had 59 tackles and eight sacks. @PaulStrelowTI @ChadCarson247 @MClarkScout pic.twitter.com/uGIp040Tfn
