Spurrier Banner being removed from Williams-Brice Stadium |
Times are indeed changing for the in-state football rivalry with Clemson and South Carolina.
Former Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurriers' 35 by 80-foot banner of himself is being removed from Williams-Brice Stadium on Wednesday morning. The massive banner facing Bluff Road has been hung on the tallest concrete tower on the Stadium since August 2014. Spurrier had a mediocre 9-10 record after the Banner was hung up in his honor. Spurrier is South Carolina's all-time winning coach with 86 victories and 49 losses but abruptly resigned in the middle of the football season (Oct 12) after a 2-4 start. He was the coach in Columbia for 10.5 seasons and won a 2010 SEC East title. Clemson defeated South Carolina 37-32 on Saturday and finished the season with a perfect 12-0 regular season while the Gamecocks dropped to 3-9 on the season.
