Pat Krall to return to Clemson in 2017 |
CLEMSON, S.C. - Junior lefthander
Pat Krall will return for his senior season in 2017, announced Sunday by the Downingtown, Pa., native. Krall was drafted in the 28th round by the Cardinals on Saturday.
In 2016, Krall became the first Tiger in history to lead the team outright in wins (10) and saves (5). He was a third-team All-American and Second-Team All-ACC reliever who was 10-2 with a 1.67 ERA, five saves and a .203 opponents' batting average along with 65 strikeouts against 17 walks in 80.2 innings pitched over 29 appearances (three starts). "I'm grateful for the Cardinals giving me this opportunity," said Krall. "It was one of the toughest decisions of my life. It is in my best interest to return to Clemson in 2017. "Talking to our coaches, being a starter next season at Clemson will benefit me for my professional career. I'm excited for what's in store in 2017. Clemson is a special place and I'm looking forward to working with our coaching staff. I can't wait to get rolling again in the fall." Krall played a big part in Clemson's 14-6 record in one-run games and 44 victories overall in 2016. He also earned two wins and a save in finishing all four Tiger victories in the ACC Tournament, as Clemson won the league title. "One of the biggest recruits we'll bring on campus is Pat Krall," stated head coach Monte Lee. "We're really excited about having him back. Everyone knows how important he is to our team and program. We're grateful to have him back for his senior year. You can tell that Clemson is a special place for Pat and he is a special player and person." In his two-year career at Clemson, he is 12-6 with eight saves, a 2.43 ERA and .211 opponents' batting average along with 103 strikeouts against 28 walks in 118.2 innings pitched over 56 outings (three starts). Krall is fourth in Tiger history in career strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.68) and eighth in career ERA. Krall is 13-6 with 10 saves and a 2.10 ERA in his three-year college career, as he played his freshman season at Temple.
