Former Clemson quarterback and backup Browns signal-caller Charlie Whitehurst was released by the Browns on Monday according to multiple reports.

Whitehurst was a respectable 14-for-24 for 182 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the 33-13 loss to the Patriots.

Browns quarterbacks Robert Griffin III [fractured shoulder], Josh McCown [broken collarbone], Cody Kessler [rib injury] are all injured so the Browns decided to add Kevon Hogan from the practice squad to the active roster.

Whitehurst has played with several teams including the Chargers (2006-2009), (2012-2013), Tennessee (2014-2015), Indianapolis (2015), and Cleveland (2016-present). He also had a stint with the Seattle Seahawks (2010-2011).

For his career, he has passed for 2,463 yards with 11 passing touchdowns and eight interceptions for a quarterback rating of 74.9.

He was drafted out of Clemson by the Chargers in the third round (81st overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft after being a second-team All-ACC performer (2005).
