Deshaun Watson on Bryant: "He will be better than me!"

by - Staff Writer -

Deshaun Watson has been vocal on social media in support of Kelly Bryant as his heir-apparent as Clemson starting quarterback.

In response to Bryant comparisons to his game Saturday night, Watson went one step further.

"He will be better than me!" Watson said before halftime of Clemson-Louisville, where the Tigers held a 19-7 edge.

Bryant shined under the bright lights at Papa Johns Stadium with career-highs in passing (316) and total yards (342) with three touchdowns.

During fall camp, Watson had a similar assessment of the Wren product.

That's a lofty mark to hit for Bryant, who improved to 3-0 as a starter with a win over Louisville. Before Watson's first-round selection by Houston, he made back-to-back national championship games and led the Tigers to their first national title since 1981.

Watson was named the nation's top quarterback two years in a row with the Manning Award and was a two-time Heisman finalist thanks to a 32-3 run as a starter over three seasons. He threw for 10,163 yards and 90 touchdowns.

Bryant entered his first road trip as a starter with a 68.6 completion percentage for 417 passing yards with a touchdown and an interception and 26 rushes for 136 yards and three more scores.
