Finebaum on CFB playoff: "Clemson's in great shape" |
ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum discusses college football for a living and mostly it revolves around SEC football topics with some sprinkling in of Clemson on a routine basis.
Finebaum was on SportsCenter on Monday and said that Clemson is in great shape to make the upcoming college football playoff if they win out because of their tough schedule. "What was so interesting is the fact that when Clemson lost a lot of the people were writing them off but by the end of the weekend, they were right back to where they started and they didn’t lose all that much," Finebaum said on Monday. Finebaum was referring to seven ranked teams that lost over the weekend to unranked teams. "As crazy as it sounds, all Clemson has to do is win out and they’re in the playoffs. They won't be denied because they've played a very good schedule. They do have a win over Auburn, which counts for something. Clemson’s in great shape." Finebaum was asked by Swinney's post-game congratulations to the Syracuse players in the adjacent locker room. "I really like him a lot," Finebaum said about Swinney. "I think he has grown up as a coach. If you remember, he was given that job in the middle of the season in 2008 after Tommy Bowden was let go and nobody gave him a chance to succeed, including me. And he has. He's learned that from the great coaches in college football history."
