Quinshad Davis being patient with Clemson and his decision |
CLEMSON – Quinshad Davis says Clemson recruiter and wide receivers coach Jeff Scott has told him to be patient, and that is exactly what he is going to do.
Davis, the Gaffney wide receiver who is rated as a 4-star prospect, dropped off of Clemson’s radar once the Tigers’ 2012 recruiting class began filling up. The Tigers already had a commitment from wide receiver Germone Hopper out of Charlotte, and after last season’s big haul at the wide receiver spot, intended to take only one in this recruiting cycle. However,

announced his intention to transfer recently, and another spot opened up, so Davis took in the Tigers’ thrilling 35-30 victory over Florida St. just over a week ago. “I think they were looking pretty good out there,” David told TigerNet Tuesday evening. “Their offense is starting to get things going, and

have a great connection. They are looking really good to me.” The game was before McNeal announced his intention, even though there were rumors, and it was at that game that he spoke with Scott. “I spent some time with Coach Scott, and we were talking and he was just telling me to be patient,” Davis said. “He was telling me that a spot may open up, and he wanted me to know that they were still recruiting me. They came to my game against Byrnes a few weeks ago, so I know they are still interested.” However, that doesn’t mean he wants to commit too soon, as he boasts offers from the Tigers, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Illinois and South Carolina and has been drawing interest from UNC, Auburn, Georgia Tech and Alabama. “I am just waiting and being patient, and see how many offers I get,” he said. “Then once I get closer to making a decision, I am going to sit down and check out the statistics and look at the offenses and things like that. I might try and make a decision after the state championship game, if we make it that far.” The No.4-rated recruit in the state of South Carolina also said he will look heavily at academics – he currently boasts a 4.1 GPA. “Academics are very important to me,” he said. “Without academics, you are basically locked into one thing. With an education, you always have something to back you up. Say I get into college, and then I get hurt, I will have that education to fall back on.” Davis already has 40 catches for over 800 yards and 10 touchdowns for the top team in the state, and he says it would be more if played more than a half. “Sometimes it is great playing for such a good team,” he said. “But there are times when I have to come out because we are beating teams. You don’t want to disrespect somebody, so I come out.”
