I know a lot was said after the 1st weekend of college baseball and you are right - way too early to make rash assumptions.
But my concerns are still the same concerns as the past 5 years or so.
Too many under 6 foot players
Too many under 300 hitters
No stud closer
And yet to be seen - an importance placed on winning the non-conference and mid-week games (those get you the home field in the regionals).
Time will tell, but Clemson is picked to only be the 5th best team in the ACC. We all keep hoping for better talent and more wins. Hopefully looks will be
deceiving and the Tigers will prove some doubters wrong. And BTW - need to win at least 2 against USuK this year.
Have you seen this year's team? They are much bigger than in the past. Bradley LeCroyBradley LeCroy
View Full Profile has made a concentrated effort to get bigger players. I can't yet speak about batting averages, power of closers. That is TBD. I think this team has a chance to be very good. Lets get a few series into the season before we panic.
You hit the major points in your assessment IMO. One thing that really concerns me and it is this: Austin A. played a nice game 6 pts, 2-3 shooting, no TO's, 2 rebs--all in all not bad for a freshman. Where has he been and why have we not seen more of him.
Candidly, he is one of the few ---outside of KJ--who actually receive a pass and are ready to shoot. He squared up and shot the damn ball. Some of our other people are in no position to shoot (even if they wanted to) when they receive a pass. This is a pretty basic in BBall. Be prepared to shoot or make a move when you get the bal. If nothing
is there look for someone who is in a position to do either one and get the ball to them..
This kid should have been seeing some time! I know he looks thin but then again some of the best players I ever saw were on the ectomorphic side of the weight scale. It's too late now but I just wonder if he might not have helped our shooting this year.
I trust the staff with the playing time. Brownell and his staff know when to bring a guy along and when they are ready for more responsibility. They see them in practice everyday and know what they can handle.
I like what Brad BrownellBrad Brownell
View Full Profile is doing with this basketball program, and he is getting the maximum out of the roster that he currently has. Hopefully he will be around long enough to allow Clemson fans to be rewarded with long term results.
Brownell has a tough job but I have seen progress and am encouraged by the future. Hopefully the program continues to make more strides.
It is pitiful for us to lose to East Michigan. What was Leggett thinking with a pitching change?
Leggett had his ace on a pitch count for early in the season. Gossett is too valuable to risk injury. I guess he felt it was time to get him out and let him build as he goes. This is fairly common practice this time of year.
I say you post this and also saw a few Clemson family member say that SU, BC, and Pitt don’t feel like ACC teams or atmosphere’s .. But do you hear what y’all are saying? I mean all three of these schools are northern school with less than power house football teams. I not saying they aren’t good programs or teams.. but most of the ACC school are southern teams and everyone in the world know that the south takes foot ball a lot more serious than northern school no matter what school you’re talking about… so I understand what you’re saying , where you in SU for the SU vs Duke B-Ball game because it sure did look like a ACC atmosphere ??? Let be honest SU and Pitt , along with L-Ville ( next year ) were bring into the ACC for few reasons 1) They were the best teams and school that were leave with the expansions of all the other Conferences. 2)SU and Pitt will how select sports in the ACC get better as a Conferences like ( B-Ball, Hockey, Soccer) and L-Ville would help for Football, Baseball plus the other sports I named. 3 ) They all with make more money for the ACC across the broad…. But I do agree with what has been said about ND, but with them in the ACC for everything and having to come to a ACC stadium 2-3 a year help the ACCC… now a few questions ??
Is there any word on Dye and if he will be read y for UGA ?
How do you think the receivers will be in the two deep ? Do you think Green and Hopper will be beat out?
Who do think is going to be the starter for the LB and SS, FS ?? I think Krease will beat out R. Simth to start with Blanks…
Did I see the schedule right are we having another purple out? Is this going to be a once a year thing ( IF so Great) or just when we play a military school ?
Always Bleed Orange and Purple
I would think Peake, Williams and Humphries would be listed as starters in the spring. Hopper and the freshmen should round out the 2-deep at receiver.
Green is moving to safety. Hopper will have to play well to hold off the freshmen.
I think Anthony will start at MIKE and Steward will win the WILL job. I am not sure who will emerge at SAM.
Smith and Blanks have the inside track at safety but Blanks is out for the spring. Kearse and Wiggins are wild cards. Which position will they play?
It appears the Purple Out is going to be a yearly event around Military Appreciation Day.
Thanks for your blog. It is a nice alternative for someone living and working in SEC country. I am concerned the loss to Notre Dame really hurt the Tigers chances of making the dance. ND had a losing ACC Conference record.
Thanks for the kind words. Clemson had a great chance in South Bend. Hopefully they play better on the road against Georgia Tech and Wake Forest.
