Morris says offense far from a finished product |
CLEMSON- The ingredients are laid out, the base is boiling, and it’s time to put the Clemson offense on simmer for the summer.

Chad Morris “All the ingredients are there to have a heck of a soup,” Morris said Thursday. “But it's just laying on the table right now. We're putting them in the pot and heating the water up is all we're doing, and it's still not very good. So it's going to have to cook and take some time and slow roast. But it'll be ready when it needs to be ready, and that's the biggest thing." The Clemson offense has talent at all of the skill positions, but the individual players will have to work together during the summer to build the chemistry that it takes to win on Saturdays. “It’s going to take some hard, hard work for Sammy and those receivers and Tajh to get on the same page,” Morris said. “We’re not there right now. We see spurts and we see flashes, but these guys have got a lot of work to do this summer. Right now, we are preparing them and getting them ready to go and get some quality reps to figure out those that will and those that won’t. But, this summer it’s going to be very critical for this offense and this football team.” Other Notes On the offensive line depth "The guy might miss because of a class or this or that," Morris said. "Trying to find that continuity or that right five in there has been hard. I anticipate these last five practices trying to find that. The good news is we have been able to get some more guys some reps and found some guys that can be a solid backup for us. "The last couple of years we have kind of crossed our fingers and hope we did not have a major injury. But because of the way the spring has worked out, we have been able to get some guys some quality reps in critical situations and have seen how it goes." On
Sammy Watkins "There will be guys that will not be able to play him one-on-one to the boundary," Morris said. "I think when you do that, you create a two-high look and you will be able to run the football. It will be able to help the run game out down the road. “We will still get some one-on-one matchups and we will have the capability of moving Sammy back to the field if we need to. That's not a problem at all. We can do so many things with him when he's in that boundary that's really going to help us out." Kalon Davis "He has been okay," Morris said. "Kalon, it just has to mean something to him. He has to have that drive. There are times when he looks great and then there are times he has been very inconsistent and those are the things we have to get away from. That's been his trademark. He has the talent and he has the tools. Don't get me wrong, but you have to have heart, the drive and the want to. This isn't a give-me sport. You have to have some drive about yourself. He has shown some flashes, I just wish it would be more than a flash." On
Zac Brooks "He really is having a good spring,” Morris said. “I'm hesitant to brag too much on him, because he may show up with a box full of Sharpies. But he has really had a good spring. He has to get better in his pass protection. But man, there are some things there. And I'm excited about the future with him."
