Around six thousand tickets remain for season opener against Auburn |
If you want tickets for Clemson’s season-opening football game against Auburn in the Georgia Dome, there won't be a better time to purchase than right now.
The game between Clemson and Auburn concludes a three-year series between the schools – host Auburn defeated Clemson 27-24 in thrilling fashion in September of 2010, and host Clemson broke defending national champion Auburn’s 17-game winning streak with a 38-24 victory in Death Valley last season. The rubber match of the series will be the second game of the weekend as part of the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games weekend that will kick off the season and will feature the first-ever double hosting of marquee, BCS-style games on back-to-back days in the same venue. The first game will showcase NC State versus Tennessee on Friday, Aug. 31. The opening game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be telecast nationally on ESPNU. The second game will pit two projected pre-season top-25-ranked teams with Auburn facing Clemson on Saturday, Sept. 1. The Tigers vs. Tigers match-up will kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be telecast nationally on ESPN. TigerNet spoke with Kate McCrary - Clemson’s Director of Ticket Operations – Thursday morning and she said about six thousand tickets remain out of Clemson’s allotment of 31,000. “We are right at 25,000 tickets [sold], with 1,000 left in the lower level,” McCrary told TigerNet. “The rest are in the upper level. At this point, with the game still being two months away, we are doing great.” It was announced last week that Auburn had sold out its allotment, leading to concerns that Auburn fans might start purchasing Clemson tickets. “We have sold some of the general admission lately, but it’s hard to tell what state they are from,” McCrary said. “We can’t tell if they are Auburn fans, or Clemson fans realizing that they need to go ahead and buy their tickets.” McCrary also said that season ticket sales are ahead of last year’s pace. “We are ahead of last year, and should have some solid numbers in the next two weeks,” she said. “But the renewal rate has been over 90 percent – which is great – and we have sold at least 2,000 new season tickets. That is a good thing. A great season always helps.”
