Clemson makes top-5 of final ESPN Power Ranking

by - Staff Writer -

Mirroring the final Associated Press and USA TODAY Coaches polls, ESPN’s last 2017-18 Power Rankings pegged Clemson as the No. 4 team in the land.

New national champ Alabama leads the way, followed by Georgia, which was No. 2 in their power rankings going into the Playoff as well. Oklahoma, Clemson, Ohio State and Central Florida round out the top-six.

“It’s hard to repeat, especially without a once-in-a-generation quarterback,” ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg writes, “Clemson needs to upgrade its OL and develop some elite playmakers, but a young team should soon return to the big stage.”

Clemson 2017 opponents in the final Top 25 included Auburn (9th), Miami (15) and NC State (24).

After a Russell Athletic Bowl loss to Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech dropped out. The Hokies finished No. 24 in the final AP and No. 25 in the final Coaches polls.
