profile for Vinyl Chloride just a few days ago.... purely a coincidence I'm sure. (They say it's 1000 times less dangerous than the previous report.
Tigernet really doesn't like web archive links. Trying again: Web Archive link of 2006 version

Well if they can change the definition of a woman overnight they can certainly change the definition of what makes a formerly toxic chemical to be totally OK for all those poor people to breathe for weeks on end. Changing definitions is much easier than you know actually doing something about it. That's what the left does best.

I've not kept up a great deal with the Fire, but something just doesn't smell right.

TOX profile of VCM vs. combustion by-products (msg #2)

Message #2.
Now that the EPA and ATSDR had known for >= 1 week before the train derailment that VCM (Vinyl Chloride Monomer) is far less toxic than per previously believed …
How does the (revised) toxicity of VCM compare to the toxicity of the ‘combustion by products’ of VCM?
The EPA must be all over this spill mess, and clearly believe that the ’burned off’ VCM by products … which include chlorinated dioxanes (with some quantities of these chlorinated dioxanes being volatilized [ airborne so that people can inhale them]) … are less toxic than ‘the recently new & less toxic’ VCM itself.
How long will it take for people to get legitimately anxious about how many species of chlorinated dioxanes were purposely created by authorities as per the got’s comparative toxicity guidelines?
(*). A reaction by-product from the manufacture of Agent Orange was a chlorinated dioxane. Who knows which species of chlorinated dioxanes have been created from this poorly controlled ‘burning’ of VCM? Who knows the toxicity / carcinogenicity profiles from those various chlorinated dioxanes?
Was the decision to ‘burn off’ the VCM done in an ignorant haste?

There are videos of the train on fire before it derailed. There are reports that the fire didn’t start for several days until it was intentionally lit. My guess is that the fire was burning in other cars and the inept emergency response didn’t get it completely extinguished and it eventually got to the toxic chemicals. But, I don’t know. The whole thing stinks of a coverup, which is why I’ve been interested in it.
Normally this big of a derailment and ecological crisis (even before the fire) would have been national news. Here we are two weeks later and it is finally becoming a story. That doesn’t pass the sniff test.

Not ‘proof,’ but indications of a conspiracy … IMO … are:
Tepid interest for too long from the federal gov’t in a huge train derailment (Dept of Transportation) and ecological) EPA.
Inexplicable lack of intensity from national news sources in this spill. This spill is one of … if not THE …the USA’s biggest man-made environment disaster / human interest event in several years. The proximity of this spill to populated areas make it worse than those oil tanker rail car wrecks which had taken place on the North Dakota to Pacific Northwest routes. To my recollection, those awful wrecks / spills had taken place in rural areas.
Disclaimer: I am not sold on the Ohio train derailment / chemical spill as being a conspiracy. Like ChasTom, I find the responses and coverages to be perplexing.
