RandomDeadCritterSmellInHouse.net question

Ok, so for the past 3-4 days we have developed a DEAD ANIMAL smell INSIDE our house. Checked the attic. The squirrel is gone. BUT, the smell is heavily centralized in the middle of the downstairs. Upstairs and in the attic smells fine. Downstairs smells fine in areas. Checked the crawlspace. Nothing. Checked the vents (as far as I can see), nothing. Checked under all furniture in the area as well.
Now, there is a wire run from the top of my bar down through the crawlspace for our internet. I guess a snake COULD get up in there, but if so there's nothing we could do anyway.
Any clues, suck jestions, etc?
And it ain't the garbage, or disposal, or anything in the kitchen/fridge.
Haven't seen any maggots yet. Nor flies. Whatever it is, it's either inside, or in the walls or way down a vent somehow.

It smells worst around the return vent (large)

However, that pulls air out and doesn't push it in. Followed it under the house to the hvac unit and no holes or problems that I could see. Pulled the filter and nothing behind that. Don't notice any source smell coming from the vents pushing air. Checked down all those to as far as I could see.

I would suggest avoiding the stink zones.

I would surmise that the smell probably dissipates in 12-16 weeks and then you can go in those parts of the house again.

had a dead animal smell in our first house and thought it was in crawl space. searched and found nothing. thought maybe underneath outside deck and nothing.
was mowing and looked at side of house and there were flies all around the master bathroom fan vent. had a little shutter type covering. got painters ladder and did the climb. worst smell and it was spring/summer.
bird flew in, laid eggs, birds hatched, couldn’t get out, and deaded. put on rubber gloves, masked up, vomiked, and proceeded to toss out 6 corpses. thought about putting in xclash spaghetti but did not.
