New Boat -- do I need one?

My little boat is 22 years old and was never up to neighborhood lake standards. I arrived here with a canoe. I put an electric motor on it and caught many fish with it as I explored the lake.
I wanted a small "fishing platform" that would be more comfy. I found and bought "Harvey" on the web. He is a tiny pontoon and has a 60hp Merc. He will plane and can run at 17mph if just I am aboard. Harvey is narrow, not just short, don't think they make these now. He can go up the creeks to hunt the fish.
Harvey aint fancy. To keep K off my ###, have replaced the floor once and the seats a couple times. Harvey is a fishing boat, so blood (mostly mine from hooking myself) and mud are part of it. I learned early on that one needs "boat shoes" that do not scuff to come on board my neighbor's boat. I am OK with that, but it is OK and expected if you spill beer on Harvey, he don't care.
A few years back went to places in the UpState seeking to upgrade. I soon realized I already had the perfect boat "for me". I have no need of ?? as my neighbors have that covered. If you vist me and want to ?? --> one of my neighbors has a great boat for that and will show. The boats near me are incredible!
Harvey has been idle for a long time and his electronic brains (top of the line) burned in the fire. Caring for him has been down the list of things I needed to accomplish. I hope to have him going by the annual Spring Striper run, but like me he is old, so maybe not possible. No matter, he still floats. I can relax in him at the dock and play his great stereo too loud. Fish come to my dock, I can meet them there.
I expect to catch the "big one" this Spring as I troll along having a cold one with Harvey.

to replace electronics or start a electronics GoFundMe page. Great Post, Made my day, btw my wife and I name all of our cars and other stuff. We have a small rotary plug in chopper with a springy power cord that our daughter over 25 years ago used to drag around the kitchen like a dog on a leash (no blades in the chopper when she did that) that she named Kelsey. We still have and use that Kelsey to make all kinds of meals.

The name "Harvey" goes way back with me as I first met him when under stress while warming up for a footrace in Newton, NC. That meeting has been very important in my life. Harvey was a "dude", but I did not understand that then.

How did this pontoon boat story turn into a plug for “The Matrix?”
My suggestions: Remember the best two days in the life of a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. In other words…Keep Harvey…the boat not the rabbit…if you see the rabbit from time to time do not tell your friends and family… Forget Harvey (the rabbit) ever existed…for your own safety do not venture down the rabbit hole …enjoy the birds and rabbits, enjoy the striper and hybrid runs but don’t consume excessive amounts of PCB’s, as this could create a different reality…the best eating fish swimming in your run there are the yankee walleyed pike…catch ‘em running in late winter to early spring (March ish)…enjoy your simulation…no need to investigate things because you have it pretty good!

Fun post.
Harvey is not a rabbit, he is a "POOKA".
I have never met anyone named Harvey. I did meet a ? who goes by the name of "MrDowd" who visits from time to time.
I was at a very competitive race and let the pressure take away the fun. While warming up he appeared and got my mind right.
That old boat fable you post is fun but not accurate for all. Most buy a boat, treadmill, shotgun, etc and seldom use it. My boat has been used constantly. It has not been "throwing $$ down a hole" which is a worn out expression used by ??.
No excessive amounts of anything are in the Tugaloo. I have never seen a walleyed pike. Some imagine danger in daily life, doubt you will catch enough fish to poison you as much as what you buy daily at ~~

I should have qualified my post by there is nothing in it intended to be serious, except for the walleye swimming up the Tugalo being the absolute best tasting freshwater fish. Try to catch one and report back.

Harvey can never be replaced. Harvey is family and 110% fits your needs. Even if you bought another boat, you will need to purchase electronics, so why not just do the same for Harvey (your old friend) and equip him (her) with the latest and greatest electronics available.
You know every nut, bolt and screw in her (him) and the good thing is the the required maintenance/repairs gives you the satisfaction of purpose and working on an old friend.

You must be a geezer.
"In the day" we we repaired and rebuilt even simple things. Now it is cheaper to replace.
For me, if something "works" and does the job, it has value and worth repair. I like my old boat and know the flaws.
It is not unlike my relationship with my Bride. After a time we are kinda in "this thing" together.

Yes, I'm a geezer. I have bought and "restored" three 40+/- year old Whalers. A properly restored/maintained old boat is just as good or better than a new one. Just make sure it has a good or new motor and electronics. If you do the work yourself, there is a lot of satisfaction plus saving a lot of money - new boats are extremely expensive.
Your previous post said it's cheaper to replace than repair. That may be true with some things like electronics, etc,, but not so with boats. with the cost of new boats, it's a fraction of the cost to repair and the boat if yours and paid for.
