…ready for the NFL! Mafah needs to work on his speed and catching the football out of the backfield. Shipley needs to run with much better balance and control. He goes down many times on shoe string tackles. Both need to work on ball security discipline at impact. Hopefully they get good advice and LISTEN to it. Or at the end of the day even better, they need to show their own maturity, realize this and prove themselves ready next year.

Would you leave me alone? Do you have nothing else better to do? Is it that you can't actually discuss football, so this is your only service to this board? I think so.

Somehow I had the impression that Mafah was already planning to return. Realize now nothing was really talked about or maybe the media didn’t have access to ask him about his plans?

When Dabo was asked about Shipley leaving or staying, he had a wry smile and said Ship had made his decision but he didn’t want to steal his thunder.
Makes me wonder if Ship is staying and Mafah is the one trying to decide if he wants to split snaps or not.

I hope Mafah stays. It’d be good if Shipley stays, but I’m kind of ready to see the next generation of RBs play too. I’m excited about Eziomume and J. Haynes. Will be a much needed boost of top end speed at that position. Shipley at 0-15 yds is as fast as any RB around, but I miss seeing a 50 yd rushing TD. We haven’t had one in 3 years.

Y’all continue to buy into the myth that Shipley is slow. It is a racist myth! The guy is fast!

just outrunning everyone. But he plays hard and can break a 10-20 yarder now and then. Pretty good out of the backfield too.

I don’t think he is slow, but he doesn’t have the Home Run ability for some reason. Mafah has 4 TDs longer than Shipleys longest since they’ve been here, and he is definitely not a speed RB. Shipley is great at 10-15 yard chunk plays, but every starting RB we’ve had in the past 30 years has had at least ONE 40+ yd rushing TD after 2 years of starting. Shipley is a way better RB than some that we have had since the West/Bowden/early Dabo years, but never takes it to the house. Not even against FCS teams.

Mickens said he got a day 3 draft grade, so I assumed Shipley and Mafah already have theirs as well.

Shipley is no Christian McCaffrey. He lacks too many variables to make an NFL roster. Again, just my opinion. Nothing personal.

I love Shipley but he’s not strong enough or fast enough for the NFL. Just my opinion.

consistent back. Neither he or Shipley are blazers, but their speed is fine. Mafah can find the hole, ship just runs in to the back of his lineman.

The thing about speed is Mafah isn’t going to get much faster. It would make the most sense to try the NFL or play the NIL game to maximize value for one season. He’s a good college back, but runs like a 4.7 guy. There’s a niche for him in the league, but it takes finding the right spot.
Shipley on the other hand probably can boost his stock by showing he can break bigger runs. However, he was the offense for his first 2 years and will start accumulating tread wear on the tire. There was a good stat preseason around his all purpose numbers and it compared to a couple of backs who were all first and second rounders. His ability to catch out of the backfield is what gets him picked and keeps him in the league.
The larger problem for both isn’t just devaluing of RBs, but also the NFL drafts around 30 per year so getting picked doesn’t even guarantee much anymore as every team cycles through them at a high rate. Collecting $500k for NIL is a good option for botb

Arch Manning made over twice as a backup college QB this year than the starting QB for the #1 seeded 49ers.
This won’t last long. Once the NFL money machine gets hit from the players union that they all need raises because it’s INSANE for college players to be making more than them; we will see an adjustment to the NIL rules. I don’t know how, but big money runs everything and also ruins it.

If the NCAA proposal comes to fruition then athletes will make $30k from the school (salary) and then whatever NIL they can get. In the league they would make $100k on practice squad of $500k+ on active rosters. The Purdy vs Arch comparison is comparing salary to endorsements. That’s on Purdy’s agent if he can’t get him endorsements by this point. The college player will always have more leverage than an NFL player until the rules change because they can renegotiate every year via the threat of transfer. I assume the NCAA will work on making scholarships multi year deals once pay is added

I agree. I think the way NIL is going now, it won’t be long before the NFL players union gets involved throwing their 2 cents in. No matter the reason wether it’s endorsement deals or contracts, the players union is gonna at least ask for the league minimum to be raised substantially, then we will see some changes made to the current NIL situation.

Honestly, both of these guys have shown plenty. There's nothing either one is going to do to improve their stock IMO. Not knocking them, they just are what they are. And RBs are so devalued in today's NFL. You have to get what you can when you can get it. Ship already has some wear on his tread. He's had a lot of carries. You got about 5 years in the league as a RB to begin with. It's almost a knock against you if you play a full career in CFB.
