Is it safe to say at this point that DJ

was a miss? Good high school player that hasn’t made the transition to college ball. He’s been on campus long enough at this point. Yea, the OL hasn’t helped but he obviously doesn’t know the whole playbook. The coaches keep it very limited. He has no touch. Terrible going through progressions. Slow. Limited pocket presence. Sometimes you get misses. I think he’s one at this point. He hasn’t shown any improvement through six games.

Watch how he played last year vs this year. He is nervous and only looking at the first read. Gotta give him time to let these amazing play calls develop.

This certainly seems to be part of it. One of the announcers made a comment last night that made me immediately think of DJ. His comment was to the effect that it is much easier to bring in a new QB "on the fly" because he won't have time to overthink things.
DJ's performance was much different last year when he was brought in "on the fly". Now that he's had the entire offseason to think about the fact that this is now his team, he is struggling.
This has already been said several times, but on top of that, he's taking over immediately after two of the best QBs in CFB history, which only magnifies his struggles.

It's the gameplan and staff for sure. DJU is not meant to run TE's offensive offense. He is not a fit for that. It would be like trying to get Byron Leftwich to run TE's offense. It would be a terrible fit. It's not who DJU is.

Well he knew the offense when he came and has been here long enough to adapt… I’m sorry he is pitiful AND I don’t care what the reasons are.. adapt, overcome or improvise !

They knew DJ wasn’t a fit for the style we run. Why even offer him? Why not adapt your offense to match his skill set? Dabo and staff aren’t innocent in this debacle of a season.

Idk if that we can define DJ yet.

This year's offense is some sort of snake bitten ugly grinder that would make you think we're running 3 yards and a cloud of dust football instead of the modern day (or our stale) spread.
DJU confuses me. There are plays where it's like...WOAH that's the dude we've been waiting on since last year.
Then a play or two later it's: how is this our starter??!?
DJU certainly did some things better tonight (dropped balls really sucked) but the RPO needs to be retired or limited to letting TP7 run it to keep defenses honest.
Is DJU a miss? Idk. It's easy to attack his stats and make him the scapegoat but the offense has some internal stuff that needs work whether it's NIL jealousy, trust, better playcalling, whatever...it'll either continue to eat away at the team or eventually someone is going to step up and be the leader on offense and we MIGHT start to see more cohesion.
FWIW this year is truly a test of a fan's sanity. Each week we hear the the players and coaches saying this could be the week we break out....and our offense has a few nice plays and maybe even scores on the first drive...then it's pure torture for the next 2 hrs until the 4th where the offense (somewhat) wakes up but ultimately depends on our defense to secure the win.
IMO Brent V gets the most credit for this season. Dabo should split his salary with him as a bonus and thank him for most likely keeping us from finishing with a losing record. Yeah it can be frustrating watching the defense but BV gets a pass in my book less we see a West Virginia like performance against the D and even then with how bad injuries have been, it may be excusable.

It is pretty obvious DJ doesn’t throw a ball that’s easy to catch. Hence, when you “fire the ball” to the receiver, the pass needs to be more accurate. That’s not DJ’s strong suit. I have always thought accuracy is rarely a coachable skill….either you have it, or you don’t.

So is it safe to say at this point that if DJ is what you say he is that this mediocre season now rest on a coaching staff that refuses to bench the kid and bring in somebody else because I think the coaching staff has regressed to the point that I am hoping somebody puts this season to rest before any more self inflicting wounds ends it.

No. I think he could good be good in a spread offense where he didn't run much. We need to adapt our offense around where his potential is. DJU is a dud for what we are trying to run, but he could be very good at one point in the right offense, but not what we are trying to run with him.

We've had QBs regress before that didn't trust their OL.
Maybe if the OL gets to the point he can trust it he will improve.
Looks like an open QB competition next year, though.
it's really concerning that he can't make the short and mid range throw consistently.
The occasional pinpoint deep ball doesn't make up for that.

DJ is (at this point) reminiscent of baseball pitcher greats Nolan Ryan and Sandy Koufax early in their careers. Stupendous fast ball and great curve, but trouble with consistency over the plate. Not to say that DJ will be the football equivalent of N.Ryan or S.Koufax, but when you see DJ's on target down-field throws, they are STUPENDOUSLY great (witness the TD drive for us in first half vs. NC State and the TD throw last night to Ngata). My goodness, those were a display of unreal talent.
But to beat the Ryan and Koufax metaphor to death, we all see DJ throwing ground balls to open receivers on short routes even when the pressure isn't there.
D-1 Player ... absolutely! But D-1 Star at this point, obviously not. Us Tiger fans hope that the light comes on reasonably early in his career ... maybe we will get a good Junior year and then see the potential of DJ come alive as a senior.

when is early in his career. He is halfway now. He is a bust at best. He is the reason the offense is sputtering. No one on the bench could be worse. He should have been benched in the Ga game for a series. He might have been better. Our staff of TE has no knowledge of what to do with DJ.

I don’t agree it is safe to say that. He’s definitely not a “don’t miss a beat” from Trevor player for this year. I believe DJ was 5 star all that hyped out of HS. He was really good in limited action last year. His arm talent (strength) is elite.
The Oline this year does not protect as well. Receivers this year do not get separation as well. So I think there’s that. I think there’s a chance DJ got complacent or over confident or whatever. Perhaps he didn’t realize how much hard work it takes to play like Trevor or Deshaun? To me he clearly looks slower and overweight, and his footwork is very clumsy. Watch his HS tapes. He’s lost athleticism. He looks like a different guy. I think he will come back next year 20-30 pounds lighter, faster and more in tune with receivers. I say too soon to say he was a miss.

He's had two years in the system. He's a miss. Don't know what's going on in his head, don't really care....he is a below mediocre QB and NOT a leader at ALL.

The fact that he was better with less time in the system concerns me. Regressing and confused. By next year he may not be able to even take a snap. I’d say miss and a clear unveiling of TE’s incompetence. Embarrassing that we have highest paid coordinator and this crap show. He has to go.

I have no idea how DJ will develop over is career, but there is no level arc to how quickly players develop. They're all different. Very few are a Sammy, DW, Trevor, ETN, or Wilkins.
According to your standard Joe Burrow was done at Ohio St
