Imo getting Trevor back is not the key factor to beat ND.

A healthy DJ who would be willing to run the ball now that his shoulder is better would still put up 40 points on the Irish.Key factors are getting Skalski,Jones and Davis back. Those 3 along with a sure tackler like Spector will limit Books chances to extend plays like he did the first game.Lets make Book beat us from the pocket, something I just don't think he will have as much success as I prior game.Go Tigers

Agreed - I will be shocked if BV doesn't have a better plan in place for stopping Book this time around, especially with healthy, more experienced LBs and Davis in there. Also, I wouldn't expect ND to break off a 65 yard TD run to start the game either!
TL will be able to read the defense better and spread the ball around a bit more too, which should open up the running game this time. Clemson wins by 2 scores at least.

I think we hold the distinct advantage in this game, especially given that Notre Dame now has a semi-banged up offensive line, and has been playing a freshman corner the past few games. As long as davis is in control of the LOS I see us containing the Irish and their run game and forcing IB to beat us with his arm. I don't think he can replicate his performance in the first game again this time. There is a good chance he will be running for his life most of the night.

ND sold out to stop the run and dared DJ to beat us. They will change the plan to help stop and pressure TLaw. ETN will be the key. The D only gave up two TD’s in regulation, first and last drives. They should be even more solid.

DJ did his job - as ‘next man up’. But it is a team sport. Our inability to run the ball and to prevent ND from scoring (plus points off turnovers) were the difference.
I’m feeling pretty good about the rematch, as all signs point favorably to a Tiger win; but there is a reason why they play the game. Looking forward to a great game - but not taking a win over the Irish for granted, though!
GO TIGERS - beat Notre Dame!!!!

Here's my question: Does BV use our regular blitzing scheme, counting on Slaski, Jones, and davis to make it work better this time or does he rush four and cover better - and spy Book ?

Likely will have some packages with Trenton Simpson, or Mike Jones Jr. as the spy on book. Simpson has a similar frame and athletic ability to Simmons last year, and I expect to see him utilized by BV in containing IB's scrambling abilities. Simpson will need to take good angles, as he has been burnt being the spy in previous games.

No way we spy Book. That will open up the TEs for ND, which is even worse than letting Book do his thing. The defenders just need to be aware HE IS GOING TO CUT BACK WHEN SCRAMBLING. It's what he does. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Expect it.

You have to spy him. There’s no real choice in that matter..may not have to do it every play but Book’s first intention once he is uncomfortable is too take off and run...period...rarely checks it down..
We need to throw some looks at him that confuses him a bit.

My vote or for Simpson to spy Book and chase him down the whole game. Love the blitzes where Simpson or Spector take a little delay with a DL twist and come screaming up the middle. Two or three sacks in the 1st quarter and this game is much more enjoyable to watch!

I think sending Skalski and maybe even a few chances for Bentley in against that running back will cure him pretty quickly of doing as good a job as he did last time.

I'm no expert, but I thought BV played a more conservative defense the last time. I think this was done for two reasons. First, he didn't want to show too much (this is done frequently during the regular season). Second, and probably the bigger factor, he knew he was short on experienced depth for this type of game. He simply did not have the horses that he normally has to run out there. It was very obvious our D was gassed in the end with 3rd and 4th stringers in the game due to injuries. This game plan will be different. Having experienced bodies will make a huge difference in this game.
I do think that Ian Book and ND played a fantastic ball game, and simply won the game. That was the game of Book's life, much like Kellen Mond when we played at TAMU.

How about no handoff fumble pick 6s by ETN! Or strip fumbles by AR! Take away those 2 gifts and we win big!

Ifs and buts...
ND can play that game too. No false start at the goal line and no Book fumble going in.

We need ETN to have about 180-200 all purpose yards . We look unbeatable when he has those big games. We surly can still beat them if he is shut down but I want to win by 3 TDS . The right game plan and play calling with TL out there and this team could be unstoppable.

I think and expect ETN will bust 2 long plays in this game. He’s due, and I suspect motivated.

Keep in mind ND's O-line is really good, even with injuries

Pressuring Book is much easier said than done and blitzing is risky against a great scrambling QB with a very good O-line.
While rushing the passer, the D-line can't go into "every man for himself" mode. It's going to take a disciplined pass rush to contain Book. We can't afford to let him pick up chunks with his legs, especially on 3rd down. I expect the defense to do much better Saturday.

we left to many escape lanes for IB when we stunted it left a wide open lane for book and the offensive line of ND would turn our defensive line away from their lanes leaving opening for book their running back did a great job of picking up our bliztes as if he knew where the blitze was coming from

Lots of good thoughts here. One that I don't see is better play by the defensive backs. They picked on one of our CBs, incessantly, and beat him over and over. We need CB play like we got against Miami.

Defense can't allow 40 points, period! Davis, Skalski, Jones and Zanders being out 5 minutes into the game after having started all season hurt big time. XT missing the 1st half hurt big time. Trenton Simpson played 75 snaps. Jake Venables played 78. Two very inexperienced players at the time. That game and the games and practice they have had since likely means they are more salty. Give me a more salty experienced player over a super talented but green player any day. BV has a saltier defense going into this game(knock on wood) and that will be the difference.
We do not need the offense helping out the ND offense as someone said already. I don't see ND as that difficult to beat if Clemson comes out and is the best version of Clemson possible! I just don't and that's not just from a Clemson fans perspective - from a football fan in general perspective - ND is not as good as Clemson when Clemson is healthy and is able to put it's "USUAL GOOD FOOT FWD"!

You are correct about ND not being as good as Clemson...we will need some bounces to go our way and we will have to play our absolute best and take advantage of red zone opportunities. This is fun, Clemson along with Bama is the gold standard in CFB...thank god for this season and this game, has made this crap year easier to deal with

Hypothetically speaking....
We beat ND for the ACC championship.
ND still makes it into the CFP.
we probably move to #2, they move to #4 If we both win the first game, rematch #3...

It's also very possible that they just swap spots 2 & 3 and end up playing two games against each other in a row. I certainly hope that's not the case though - I'm ready to see us beat up on the Buckeyes again!
