Actually had a Friend Ask Me If I Were Happy or Sad that Dabo is Staying

My friend is a college sports fan - but not a fan of any of the ACC or SEC teams. He attended a really good FCS school.
I found it interesting that this is a question that someone outside of Clemson and/or Bama would even ask. Honestly, it caught me a little off guard that it ever was a question.
FWIW: Here is my response:
Goodness, that's an easy one. Definitely, happy Dabo is staying.
The man has: - 8 ACC Championships - 6 CFP Appearances - 4 National Title Game Appearances - 2 National Championships
Meanwhile, his players annually rank among the highest in the country in APR (Academic Progress Rate) and are among the highest in graduation rates. And (for the most part) tend to stay out of trouble with the police.
Don't know how much more a Clemson fan could ask from a Head Coach.

IMO, this is indicative of how much Dabo has elevated our program. Clemson football news is just big news. A story like this, and even stories that are not as big, are getting the attention of CFB fans. Even those who don't necessarily have a specific interest in Clemson.
Thanks Dabo.

We cannot ask for a coach that is good as Dabo. I think for the most part we have become spoiled. I know I have to pinch myself to come back to reality. Dabo is a TRUE CLEMSON MAN and is producing true Clemson Men on and off the field. They LOVE THE PAW.

No doubt that Dabo will go down as the best coach in Clemson history...

...but I also think that his best days are behind him. You can blame NIL, the portal, or the ever-changing college football landscape, but it's hard to win and even harder to maintain a dynasty.
Only a handful of coaches in the history of college football can even sniff what Saban did, so holding Dabo to that standard is absurd. Smart might do it; who knows? He is definitely on his way.
I think it's time to just enjoy the 8, 9, and 10 win seasons but not expect many, if any more, natties. I just don't see it, but there is no shame in having a solid program that graduates players with or without NCs.

Most of what you say about college FB is true. However, Dabo will never give up on trying to win natties. He is not going to be satisfied with winning 8-9 games a season in the ACC. HE will leave coaching if that is going to be the standard for Clemson.

But that's what it's going to take unless you have unbelievable recruiting and development. One wrong coaching hire and you're set back for years - just look at our offense.
None of this is Dabo's fault, mind you, but the current set-up is perfect for those willing to get into the mud with the pigs.

Bingo!!! As a 61 year Tiger fan, and a 15 year Dabo fan, I don't know if I could have come up an answer as good and correct as yours right off the top of my mind. Dang good response, and I hope your friend was satisfied with your answer, bc he would be an idiot if not.
If Dabo was the HC of any team in the country and his record was the same as it is at Clemson, their fan base would love Dabo as we do, any fan base would. Their problem with Dabo is he's our HC, and they hate him bc he isn't theirs!!!
Just as was Spurrier and Saban, they were hated around the country bc they weren't winning for them like Dabo has done for us, Spurrier at Florida, and Saban at LSU/Bama!!!

I find it absurd that anyone questions whether we would want Dabo to stay. I also find it beyond absurd that we have these whinning, complaining so-called fans that are crowing like coots. These people don't realize that if Saban had not had the run he did at Bama, Dabo and Clemson would have been the #1 program in the country over a significant time period. It took a historical run somewhere else to keep Dabo to a lessor meteoric plain. How many coaches in modern college football ever reached the heights of Dabo...very few. Winning percentage--- very few, grad rates---very few, sending players to the league---very few, how many conf championships? 9? All time conf record for bowl wins. How many coaches have ever coached in 2 national championship games, let along win two and coach in 4. Guys that are considered the greats have not reached the feats of Dabo or it took them far longer to do it.
Did Bobby Bowden win 11-12 games and a NC every year? Joe Paterno and many others won 8,9, 10 games and were legends. Heck it took (until Saban) the greatest coach of all time Tom Osbourne about 20 years to in a NC.
I hate losing. But am I going to bytch about winning 9, 10, 11 games every year and not being a NC contender every year....No! I lived through the Ken Hatfield, Tommy West, Tommy Bowden years. One thing that I really love about Dabo teams is we win the games we are supposed to. Everybody loses one here or there but 9 times out of 10 we win the games we are supposed to. Typically I don't look at Wake Forest, Duke (yeah I know 2023), GT, SC, and games like that as toss ups. Under previous coaches every game was a potential loss.
I love Dabo and as far as I'm concerned I hope he stays til he's at least ready to draw social security.

The question yet to be answered is can we replicate success in this new environment in college football? I think we can but the changing dynamics do create more challenges for us.
No one better to take on that challenge than Dabo.
