Lots of noise for nothing really. I read those comments in the magazine and thought; "is that why you lost out on the ACC title because Clemson wasn't threatening on that side of the ball or b/c there was only one reliable playmaker"? I mean, "what does that say about YOUR program if that's the case then"?

Just noise. Go play ball and get it done on the field and things will fall in line.

Time for talk is thankfully almost over.

Reporter Making Up Stuff.. .. for hits/clicks/subscriptions

1

Aug 2, 2023, 2:40 PM

This very well could all be false as some other posters have pointed out.

Irresponsible journalism is so dangerous.

If you can get everybody riled up(similar to the kid at school that never fought; but always was in the middle of conflicts - the fight promotor). They can cover bigger stories and make juicier headlines leading up to or following a game when emotions and feelings get involved.

Best to just go out and "DOMINATE"! That way, if it is true they can proceed with their tail between their legs as they spew that nonsense.
If it's 100% fabricated and what some writer assumes coaches would say or paraphrasing a coach - "it's just bravo sierra"!

I love the criticism of Dabo's hiring outside the family, when the past few years the criticism was for hiring within the family.

I'm glad talking season is almost over.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's why Dabo doesn't listen to critics

4

No matter what he does, he'll be criticized.

That's also why he's a great leader. He only listens to wise counsel.

We're missing the point is all

Aug 2, 2023, 1:29 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Anonymous ACC coaches question Clemson 'family,' new offense impact ]

Look DABO was from out of the family----an Alabama realtor with no head coaching experience.

And he failed! But we stuck by him anyway.

The point seemed to be more about how it's simply not the recruiting advantage it once was for Clemson saying it's us-against-the-world. Is it a big difference? Culturally, maybe. Does it matter in recruiting for OUR success?

It doesn't. We CAN handle this stuff, I sincerely believe it, just not accidentally is all.

Football articles are just as popular during the off season as anything. It can be an obvious lie and many will read it anyway.

The only news I hear is here except for a small org publication called The Pour Over. It's a Christian site which hits my email once a day and never blast me with constant links to their articles. If there's any sort of spin I haven't detected it. I believe you would like it because it's so different and condensed.

Streeter Clemson:
GA 2004-05
QB and Recruiting coordinator 2014-2021 @$250k/yr
OC 2021-2022 @$900k a year and a payout of $1.85M at termination

All of this while living in Clemson, SC eating free food most days and getting most of his clothing for free as well. I wish my family had been as nice to me in my adult years…

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What about as a player?

1

Aug 2, 2023, 1:27 PM

Don't forget, Streeter was a great player for Clemson. Some of us are old enough to remember him here, even.

He famously played in a game to help us win with a broken arm. The guy kinda literally bled orange, which is why Coach Swinney has been explicit about keeping him if he wasn't able to hire Riley away sight-unseen.

It's OK to hire new guys; after all, Coach Swinney was an Alabama realtor with no experience as a head coach. THANK GOD we didn't fire him after year 1 (or 2, 3 or 4, for that matter).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What about as a player?

2

Aug 2, 2023, 3:06 PM

Streeter would still be our OC if he benched DJ5 at halftime of the coot game.
Clemson wins, Cade starts the UNC game, and we make the playoff.
Streeter had to make that move to keep his job, and he didn't.

If he called a better game, putting TD's on the scoreboard against Tennessee, and winning, he would still be here.
In clutch time he did not adapt in those two games, and it cost him his job.
I was really pulling for him to be successful, but it didn't work out. That's life....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe!

Aug 2, 2023, 3:59 PM

Maybe?

I guess my thing is Coach Swinney has said so many times this summer he was never going to even consider replacing Coach Streeter this year if not for one single person agreeing to take the job: Garret Riley

The part that's unique is they hadn't even met before the offer was ready, & that's OK; it's simply a change is all, like, OK, maybe it's more like the traditional big guys, but that clearly also has its advantages when you can get the top-rated OC as a result.

Aug 2, 2023, 12:37 PM

Who isn't performing to the "standard" mean our "family" culture is bogus? How you go about says more about the family culture he was handled with.

If Dabo knew he was over his head and left him there a few more years, wouldn't that jeopardize Dabo & Clemson's "best is standard" being bogus too?

As far as my guess of acc coaches making these comments, I'd say Dave Dorian, Pat Narduzzi, and maybe BC's new coach from Ryan Days buckets staff...any one else being negative toward Clemson would probably be the beginning signs of our upcoming exit from ACC.

Dabo continues to do things the right way but animosity runs deep in this conference with some of these other HC's

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's changed, & that's OK

1

Aug 2, 2023, 1:06 PM

Look, the culture here at Clemson HAS changed. And that's OK! Unprecedented success will do that. It's still inherently special, make no mistake. How much you change & what direction you change in is what matters most.

But it's also OK to say things have changed rather than insist they haven't.

We hired a realtor from Alabama to be a first-time head coach here named Dabo Swinney.
He pretty much failed, & for several years in a row.

BUT we stuck by him. In fact, we were explicitly vocal in supporting him, & for years in spite of his inability to beat our rival or win the league, & we stood up for it & for our Coach (OK, I know not everyone did but largely it defined Clemson nation then, for sure).

It is OK things have changed to where we are OK to fire a guy after just 1 year who bled orange for decades to instead hire a coach with zero Clemson ties sight-unseen from a relatively chance encounter at an annual coaches meeting (even in spite of Coach Swinney saying he would have kept Streeter if we hadn't been able to immediately hire Riley the day they met).

For example, we also make room on the staff for guys like Tajh Boyd, CJ Spiller & more. Clemson is unique, but it's OK to recognize things have changed from being exclusively fighting for family as much as we did before, & THANK GOD we kept Coach Swinney through all that went on in his first 4 years in particular rather than switching to someone else. Love Dabo, always!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It's changed, & that's OK

Aug 2, 2023, 1:25 PM

Haters always gonna hate

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's both, & that's OK

Aug 2, 2023, 1:45 PM

It's both, isn't it?

Look at Coach Venables; he was ALWAYS Oklahoma for life, but his time at Clemson made him family, & now WE have been vocal about supporting him & his wife & their family en masse in the fight against her cancer diagnosis.

We haven't done nearly that for Coach Streeter in spite of his decades of commitment to Clemson as a player, leader & coach (I'd argue it's the opposite as many fans literally hate him now), & I don't love that, & it IS different is all, compared to how we so vocally stuck up for an inexperienced realtor from Alabama in his first few bad years in his first head coaching job here at Clemson.

Then we replace him with a guy Coach Swinney just met & with no Clemson ties outright. And that's OK!

At the same time, we still hire guys like Tajh Boyd, CJ Spiller, Nick Eason & more from the family.

It's NOT the same recruiting advantage it once was seems to be the point of the statement, & he KINDA has a point.

Problem is Clemson is now recruiting even better so the entire point seems moot. Yes, Clemson's culture has changed, but results matter, too, straight up, & that's OK.
