Sling Tv

Aug 16, 2016, 3:14 PM

Does anyone have any experience with sling tv? I'm thinking about cutting satellite and using it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, we can also tell you which smart phone, hdmi cable,

Aug 16, 2016, 3:15 PM

and beer to buy. So you're not UDP.

Actual question here, but how can you "cut"

Aug 16, 2016, 3:18 PM

a satellite ?

Why in the hale would you do this two weeks before football

I like your funny words magic man

Sling has all of the ESPN's including goal line for $25

Aug 16, 2016, 3:57 PM

and the SEC network. Digital Antenna picks up the locals. I like it

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

GO TIGERS!!

My issue with sling was the one screen at a time limitation

Aug 16, 2016, 4:00 PM

It also has highly compressed picture and only 2 channels of audio.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I use Chrome Cast and I have it on two tv's so I

Aug 16, 2016, 4:02 PM

can stream to both. It certainly doesn't have a whole lot of bells and whistles, but if it did it wouldn't be $25/month

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

GO TIGERS!!

Can you have two separate channels on at a time?***

Aug 16, 2016, 4:03 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think so.. To be honest, I haven't tried yet.

Aug 16, 2016, 4:04 PM

I know I could from two devices, but I'm not sure I can from just my phone.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

GO TIGERS!!

That was the main issue when we had Sling. If I was up

Aug 16, 2016, 4:06 PM

watching a football game, my wife couldn't watch something else in the bedroom.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just checked.

Aug 16, 2016, 4:10 PM

With the "blue" or "combined" options you can have up to three devices on different channels

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you act as if this could present a problem***

A TV in the stabbin cabin?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm really curious what some people's TV bills are

Aug 16, 2016, 3:33 PM

that they want to resort to the pain of trying to stream everything with a crappy interface (or no interface), no DVR, possible lag on their connection, etc considering they still have to pay for the cost of internet.

I'm guessing you have DirecTV? Have you looked into Dish Network? It couldn't be more than $15-$20 month more expensive than going with just Sling

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We were paying $70 for internet, $11 for Hulu, $8 for

Aug 16, 2016, 3:38 PM

Netflix, $35 for Sling, and sharing an Amazon password.

My bill is now pretty much the same for DirecTV and internet.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But think of how you get to be tech support for a someone

Aug 16, 2016, 4:00 PM

wanting to watch "The Bachelor"!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

never used it, but read up on it

Aug 16, 2016, 3:36 PM

has packages and add-on tiers....it CAN end up similarly priced to cable.
"DVR"-like function
can only watch one screen at a time
no locals (unless they've added it)

Charter Spectrum Stream is a well priced option....WITH locals, but no DVR...however you can use Charter credentials to access apps & websites for on-demand stuffs

I've heard good things about Playstation Vue, too

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just looked into this, one drawback with Charter DVRs

Aug 16, 2016, 3:56 PM

is that they are not shared and can record 'only' 2 things @ once.

So, if you record something on one DVR you have to watch it there. 2 channels per DVR, so we were looking at 2 DVRs (family room + master). Record Clemson game in family room, cannot watch in bedroom; record 'Juan the Pool Boy' in bedroom, cannot watch in family room.

Definite first world problem.

Also switched to ooma for home phone #. Buy the $100 modem-thingy, then it's $4 month.

You sure? I placed one for work over a yr ago and don't

Aug 16, 2016, 4:19 PM

recall the $90 balloon. I looked at the whatever features level is and we don't need that, just phone# and forwarding.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

#ACCFTS

Friend, you can go that route....many have, but be warned...

Aug 16, 2016, 4:04 PM

if you don't connect the devices to your home a/v equipment using Monster Brand 99.99% deoxygenated cables, you might as well be listening to the radio.

hope that helps.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

99.99% I dunno...maybe I've matured in recent years, but

Aug 16, 2016, 4:21 PM

it's FULLY deoxygenated, or nothing at all.
Life's too short to deal with that .01%
