Foul on Hunter’s game winner? How legit?
2

I thought it was a pretty obvious foul with the hip and leg. The defender slammed the shooter’s body and altered his progress even though no contact to hand/arm was made.
But, now I see lots of people from other fan bases saying it was a bad call at that point in the game.
What is the consensus here with no orange glasses?
Was it a foul?
And maybe just as important …,Would we EVER get that same call in Chapel Hill of Cameron?

It was absolutely a foul and the refs had to call it.

He was bumped, to the point that he was almost horizontal in the air on the way down.
If it were a borderline call they would not have called it at that point in the game.
Great job by Chase to get to the rim, absorb the contact, and finish the play. He forced the refs to make a call and that’s exactly what you want to do in that situation.
If Dawes or Honor had been our PG last night, that would have been a contested runner or an outside shot, both of which are lower percentage shots than what Chase got us.

That's highly exaggerated. It was minor lower body contact, and that's a call

that's not normally called in that spot.
Great game by Chase though.

When a player is airborne and sends him near horizontal. Clear foul. Closer to a flagrant than a non call.

I didn't see the whole "horizontal " thing at all, and by stretch of the imagination was it a flagrant foul.
I'm happy it was called and happy we won. But I do fully believe it was a borderline call.

described. He did not knock Chase horizontal and by no means was it a flagrant foul. The defender went straight up, and there was lower body contact. A call like this in this situation is rare indeed.
I'll take it, but some folks are really exaggerating what happened.

Again, great game by Chase and awesome game winning drive with confidence.

You must have missed the elbow to his neck. Defender was pushing with his arm. Thats why he went sideways. He did get pushed and thats the only reason he went sideways. Flagrant is debatable, but the defender very clearly tried to alter his shot with contact. Clear foul

Didn’t Dawes hit a game winner vs fsu before Covid in almost the same manner at littlejohn?

I view them as different. Dawes hit his right after a made basket, not a dead ball. FSU wasn’t set like they were for Chase’s shot, which was a dead ball after a made free throw.
Chase also made his shot against contact, a much harder shot.
I’m not bashing Dawes, he’s just not typically apt to drive to the basket. Chase is outstanding at getting into the paint.

And after calling every other conceivable foul down the stretch it would’ve been horrible to not call that one. I understand the argument that refs need to “let ‘em play” and I don’t hate it when they do, but it has to be consistent. And it would’ve been very inconsistent to not call that foul after the contact they’d called earlier.

Yeah, it was more his momentum. You see it all the time and it's not called. Good acting job. It was called and that's that. Kinda like you see what you want too. I blew it up and watched it frame by frame.
That said, it was very poorly played defense the whole play. You can clearly see why fsu is a quad 4 team.

They are quad 3, not quad 4.

And that is mostly due to some bad losses early in the year when they were without some players.
The team we played clearly is better than a quad 3.

That was a good call IMO. The one I couldn’t figure out was a little earlier when PJ went flying to the ground under the basket. Watched that one several times and didn’t see any contact except maybe a little from Tyson. I refereed intramural basketball when I was at Clemson and it is really hard to see everything going on in real time.

It was way past time for Clemson to get a call late in the game. Like since the ACC was formed in 1953. Celebrate it. It doesn’t happen often.

In Cameron that would've been called a charge, Duke would've gotten two free throws, made them both and won by four

Yeah, I thought the foul with the hip check actually occurred about 12’ from the basket and continued all the way to the basket. At that point, Cleveland could have disengaged and probably gotten a no-call; but by increasing the lower body contact at the point where his plane intersected Chase’s, he made the worst of all plays, gave up the game-tying FG as well as the game-winning FT.
A clear and decisive foul 12’ from the basket doesn’t necessarily lose them the game. A hoop-and-harm did.

shouldn't be called "at that point in the game"! Fouls should be called exactly the same, whether it's midway the first half, or with 10 seconds left in a tie game!
