How will a conservative ever get elected president?
Nov 7, 2012, 7:22 AM
|
|
A moderate could not even sniff a victory against one of the most liberal presidents we have ever had after a failed 4 years.
I think "liberal" is in the cool thing to be in America. I don't see that changing, but only becoming more prominent.

The way to effect change is to take an extreme stance, then negotiate and compromise to a better end. If your driving force is a strong ideology, then you won't come back to the middle to accept a compromise.
And that goes for both sides of the aisle.

I associate the word conservative with what most people would call libertarian- small government in every way. Very few politicians fall into that category.

If Romney had won, you would be crowing about a conservative victory. Just because he loses, does not mean you get to redefine him.
Just like you guys own the conservative W(t#). He is one of you.
The problem is that your ideology is not realistic.

I do not see a conservative winning unless its at the next election after Obama has possibly made things worse.
I am 30 and being Liberal and accepting of everyone is the cool thing to do. Our culture is becoming more God-less and entiteled.
Its about nothing but demographics now and to get elected you need to give the bitter working man, the blacks and the hispanics what they want.
Sadly though, the hispanic culture is almost all Catholic and they end up voting for Obama despite the fact that the Catholic Church is very clear on the non-negotiables of the faith and their stance in the election. Really the same applies to Northeastern White Catholics too.

Biblical Quotes Supporting the Belief that Jesus Is A Liberal
Peacemaking, not War Making: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. [Matthew 5:9] Â Resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. [Matthew 5:39] Â I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despite-fully use you, and persecute you; [Matthew 5:44]
The Death Penalty: Thou shalt not kill [Matthew 5:21]
Crime and Punishment: If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to cast a stone at her. [John 8:7] Â Do not judge, lest you too be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. [Matthew 7:1 & 2.] Â Â
Justice: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Â [Matthew 5:6] Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy [Matthew 5:7] Â But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Â [Matthew 6:15]
Corporate Greed and the Religion of Wealth: In the temple courts [Jesus] found men selling cattle, sheep and doves and other sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. [John 2:14 & 15.] Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. [Luke 12.15.] Â Truly, I say unto you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. [Matthew 19:23] You cannot serve both God and Money. [Matthew 6:24.]
Paying Taxes & Separation of Church & State: Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. Â [Matthew 22:21] Â
Community: Â Love your neighbor as yourself. .[Matthew 22:39] Â So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you.[Matthew 7:12.] Â If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. [Matthew 19:21] Â
Equality & Social Programs: But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just. [Luke 14:13 &14.] Â
Public Prayer & Displays of Faith: And when thou pray, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.  But thou, when thou pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret… [Matthew 6:6 & 7]
Strict Enforcement of Religious Laws: If any of you has a son or a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? Â [Matthew 12:11] The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. [Mark 2:27.]
Individuality & Personal Spiritual Experience: Ye are the light of the world. [Matthew 5:14]

Donner....

What else could could the Matthew 5:21 verse apply to? Maybe....abortion, stem-cell research?? Im actually against the death penalty.
Its also a myth that the Republican party wants people to starve and not help them. Its just that they do not want to set up a culture of entitlement for those that know better.
Also....Im Catholic and many people do not understand organized religion and acceptance of its teachings. If you are Catholic you are to abide by the non-negotiables of the Church....abortion, euthanasia, stem-cell research, cloning, and gay marriage.

No one is forcing you to get abortions or gay married or euthanized, or cloned or benefit from stem cell research.
There are people who do not believe in that dogma and would like to benefit from those things. Why are you so set on imposing your side, denying those people who seek those options the personal choice to do so?

I understand people do not believe in the non-negotiables, but my point is that if you are Catholic then you must accept all Catholic teachings....period. There is no debate...I am just pointing out how many disregard this and its saddening to me.
I respect peoples personal choices unless it is something inherently wrong. I do subscribe to the new age moral relativist theory for everything...its not to each his own...some things are just right and some things wrong. That's how it is.
Abortion is evil and how anyone can support shows me that you are either (1) just a carefree person or (2) you are not aware of what is actually going on.
Im not completely against the Democratic Party, but until they change on social issues I cannot ever support a candidate from that group.

And Im not wanting to get in a morning long debate here because I have a lot of work to do, but all I was really commenting towards above is that its always amazing to me as a Catholic how many fellow Catholics ignore Church teaching when voting.

Things that you posted such as the Justice one aren't clear to me... Are liberals forgiving and Republicans not?
Are you saying Republicans are for no taxes?
Are you saying Republicans judge others and Liberals don't?
The public prayer one only refers to true evangelicals, which I understand that you called that out, but really aren't so common.
I don't even know where the last two are going.
As a Christian, I believe it is not the responsibility of the government to regulate how I follow the Bible: IE it should be up to the all of the people to help others outside of the government. If I want to give my money to help others it is what I want to do. Why should I trust that the government is better at determining how to spend my money helping others than I am?

Re: How will a conservative ever get elected president?

First Romney is hardly a moderate with his social views and economic plans, he is just less farright. A Republican may never get elected again as President unless something changes within the party. The very party structure requires one be far enough right to appeal to the radicals currently running the party to win nomination and then try to get back to moderate ground to appeal to independent and moderate voters that make up most of the American electorate. Then you saddle him with a ridiculously rightwing VEEP to keep the far right, a horribly offensive GOPlatform which is extremely far right and questionable in its historical contexts, and you have recipe for disaster. It doesn't help that Romney reminds many of us of the worst President of my lifetime(and I remember Ike), Bush Jr. The fact is I don't want a liberal or conservative President, I want a moderate like me who throws away the bad from each philosophy and keeps the good in each.

From CNN last night, "It is clear that Obama has won the moderate vote."
You alienate the woman voter.
You alienate the latino voters.
You alienate the asian voters.
You alienate the teachers.
You alienate the government worker.
You alienate both the retiree (in that 47%) and soon to be retirees (medicare/social security comments).
You alienate the war weary.
And then, you say it's all about the "liberal".
You still don't get it, do you? Obama was ripe for the picking. All you had to do was keep the focus on the economy, play it safe on social issues, and victory was yours. Instead, the most incredibly stupid comments imaginable kept flowing from the mouths of your candidates.
Don't blame it on the liberal. Blame it on your party and their continued selection of candidates unable to know when to keep their traps shut.
