Hey Clone 26.2

Jun 14, 2012, 2:32 PM

What is the best race throughout the year in Greenville?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There are only a few choices

Jun 14, 2012, 2:35 PM

Hispanic
Caucasian
Black
Other

Interdasting to see what Cloner says.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Caucasian?

Jun 14, 2012, 2:36 PM

HTH

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What distance you looking for?***

Jun 14, 2012, 2:36 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

10K and 5K

Jun 14, 2012, 2:37 PM

I can't train for anything longer than that. Gets too boring.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Reedy River run is pretty good, first part of the 5K

Jun 14, 2012, 2:39 PM

is a lot of up hill. They have a 10K too, the last leg of that one is murder. (listening RH?)

There is a G'ville News Race in July I think that is somewhat big.

Swamp Rabbit 5K is a mess.

Re: Reedy River run is pretty good, first part of the 5K

Jun 14, 2012, 2:40 PM

I ran the Reedy River 10K this past spring. Blacked out on the last hill up Broad Street. That is some bull ####.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

and they don't call it the heavy metal run because of

the music!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes...do NOT do the Swamp Rabbit 5K....holy cow..

Jun 14, 2012, 2:41 PM [ in reply to Reedy River run is pretty good, first part of the 5K ]

Red White and Blue Shoes 5K at Furman coming up in July. That seems to be a pretty fun race.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I may try that one.

Jun 14, 2012, 2:45 PM

I was going to run the Swamp Rabbit Trail one too, but backed out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The problem with the SRT race

Jun 14, 2012, 2:47 PM

Is that you've got 5-6000 people in TR...which is pushing it, then everybody finishes the race on the SRT. You cant thin out a field that big in 3 miles to run on a 6ft wide piece of pavement.

You ever run on trails? There is a 7K coming up in August at Paris Mountain. Running up there is pretty fun.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, but I may try it. But running in SC outdoors in August

Jun 14, 2012, 2:49 PM

is not as appealing as fall/spring

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I kinda like running in blazing heat / humidity....

Jun 14, 2012, 3:15 PM

for realsies.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sign up today..I think registration prices go up after today

That Go Drive Run 5k that was a couple of weekends ago..

boasts having a net downhill course, free bball tickets and hotdog and coke after the race.

Might be one to put down for next spring.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, I've got to remember about that one, would be fun***

Jun 14, 2012, 2:47 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Zombies are people.

Jun 14, 2012, 3:11 PM

Just not alive-type people. But still people.

Greenville Downtown 5K and Reedy River 5K/10K

Jun 14, 2012, 2:40 PM [ in reply to 10K and 5K ]

are probably your best bets as far as a "Big race" in Greenville. Nice courses through downtown.

They have a 5K during Spinx Runfest weekend too...its called the Big Punkin. Lots of people dress up for it.

There's just about a 5K every weekend for some cause in or around the greenville metro all the time. 10K's in this area seem to be more difficult to find.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Fun "smaller runs" I've done

Jun 14, 2012, 2:46 PM

Sugar Creek has a Jingle Bell jog in early December, pretty flat course

Furman has a turkey trot weekend before Thanksgiving, 5K, halfway point is that hill on the wooded side of the lake so that turns it a little harder than an average 5K

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Most of the Furman races are now taking "the hill"

Jun 14, 2012, 2:48 PM

out of the course to make it faster.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think 10k races are hard to find everywhere. Charlotte

Jun 14, 2012, 2:52 PM [ in reply to Greenville Downtown 5K and Reedy River 5K/10K ]

lacks on the 10ks compared to the enormous amount of 5k races.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Its a good stepping stone between 5K and a half...

Jun 14, 2012, 2:56 PM

but seems like you have to travel to find many of them. I think most race directors look for a 5K to get that easy money from the beginners or use for a fundraiser.

Halfs are kind of the same way...beginners or fundraisers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

All I know is
