Drop the Cupcakes...who'd you rather play?

Jul 6, 2012, 9:35 PM

While I understand the 'tune up' game to start the season was the original thought to playing FCS schools, now it's gone to "Kick-Off Classics" and it's a big game to start the season. I would rather play a 12 game schedule against solid opponents for everyone. The new playoff system should get this to the forefront of scheduling as strength of schedule will be more valued.

I like to keep the games with Auburn & USC is a given, but what about the 2 other games we could schedule?

My choices would be: GEORGIA, WEST VIRGINIA or PENN STATE. (I can already hear the WVU jokes coming.)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You could throw Alabama in the list also....

Jul 6, 2012, 9:41 PM

You have a fine list.... Alabama would make a good choice also... relatively close, good program, etc.

We do...Duke & Wake and every other conference has doormats

Jul 6, 2012, 10:22 PM

When all the conferences go to 16 teams in the next few years, there will several FBS schools that get 'demoted' to FCS.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah Wake was one missed FG from winning atlantic

Your opinion on Tigernet is unwanted, unasked for, unnecessary and irrelevant.

Being just another slimy chickentroll, you add nothing to the conversation. Drag your feathered ### back to fgf where someone might give an "eff" what you say or think.

Seeing you get up in arms about a fact is much more fun

Jul 8, 2012, 2:39 PM

I think I found my follower. Seeing that you are either 35 or 36 years old (assuming you were born in 76) I would think you'd have better things to do than thumbs down every single one of my posts, but whatever makes you happy.

Also, I did add something to the conversation. How many times have fans over here called it the "SEC Least", yet when I pose a question on how one of the almost "top" teams in the ACC gets throttled by one of those lowly teams, it's irrelevant?

But, like I said, stay in this Clemson bubble of a website, where anything negative about Clemson or the ACC is complete rubbish. I thought you were going to ignore me anyhow.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually that is me TDing every one of your posts.

Jul 8, 2012, 2:42 PM

get lost. I don't go to FGF to hear stupidity, nor does he. So go back to your friends.

Re: Look, I'm for playing a tough out of conference game or two,

Jul 6, 2012, 11:46 PM

Funny how some people complain about being in a weak, basketball driven acc, yet the second someone says let's schedule some quality ooc games, they cry about it being too hard. Seriously, you cant have it both ways. I say load out up. Play the best. Leave no doubt!

would rather keep the schedule lighter versus toughen it up. The idea that tougher competition makes a strong team stronger is completely lost on many. A decade of ACC mediocrity based on spreading the competition out is strangling every team in the league, and it's about to get worse.

Jul 7, 2012, 12:37 AM [ in reply to where? where are these people of which you speak? ]

Don't hijack a thread about playing more competitive teams because you're upset that UVA could lose a home game every other year until they raise their game up another notch which was discussed on a whole different thread.

You and others have more than covered that an ACC football division formed by the more competitive programs would be too hard of a schedule to play and would hurt a team's chances for the post-season. I don't think that speaks for everyone at all, but you definitely have company.

Didn't have to look very far, did I?

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jul 7, 2012, 2:27 AM

but the home game. Yeah I'm going to toss out what a division would look like when people are talking about cupcakes on schedules, because what the OP was talking about is about to come at a steep price. I got mixed up when you chimed in hijacking my response into something else.

I'm sure the status quo will work out just fine.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Madness is doing the same things over and over and

Jul 8, 2012, 1:32 PM

expecting different results. I suppose the best solution is that everyone just needs to get better, right? That's going to be real interesting in the coming years as the league further diminishes the financial abilities of the teams it's counting on to save it, as well as saddling them with SOS challenges with the home game loss every other year and its OOC repercussions, plus the extra ACC team on the schedule (check out the new division rival FSU and Clemson has - that'll grow us something good - yeah, buddy). You can choose not to believe or understand this all you want to - it won't change what's coming down the pipeline.

The league needs significant change or football programs will leave because they can't afford to stay, despite the "seat at the table" and OB deal. It's not enough.

Ask the competitors who they want to play year in and year out, especially those competing and coaching at this level, and you're going to hear that they want to play the best as often as possible because it's part of a champion's nature to do so. You know, it's just possible that the ACC's manufactured division alignments since expansion to 12, which stress balance and watered down competition, do more harm than good to the league's more competitive teams. 2-13 BCS records, scant national opportunities, inexplicable losses to inferior teams, etc. Just wait until these competitive programs try to absorb the financial and scheduling hit on top of this once we go to 14.

Dream on.

As long as we beat South Carolina every year, I have know problem calling them USC. I'd rather South Carolina finish second to us every year and be called USC than to call a bunch of California rich kids USC. The better South Carolina (the state and its people) perform in education, sports, business, etc., the better. I sure as hell don't like being compared to Mississipi. As much we may not like to admit, we've got a lot more in common with South Carolina than we do Southern California.
