Reports of Watson visiting Auburn are false according to coaches |
Controversy seems to follow the No. 1 recruit in the state of Georgia, especially when they are committed to Clemson.
Deshaun Watson Deshaun Watson Those reports, as far as Bruce Miller [head coach at Gainesville] knows, are completely false. “Here is what I know,” Miller told TigerNet Monday morning. “I got a call from Coach [Chad] Morris Friday night about 7:30 or 8 o’clock. He asked me if I knew anything about Deshaun being at Auburn, and I told him I didn’t know anything about it. So I texted Deshaun, and he said, ‘I am not at Auburn. I am at home. I don’t know where all of that got started.’ I texted him back and asked him where that got started, and he said that people had been texting him all week about going to Auburn’s Big Cat weekend and he told them he wasn’t going.” Miller said that in order to get to the bottom of the situation, he repeatedly asked Watson if he was telling the truth, and Watson said he was. “He told me that he was at home and had been at home and had no plans in going to Auburn,” Miller said. “I said, ‘Are you telling me the truth?’ And he said, ‘Yes sir, I am. I am not going down there and I don’t know where that got started.’ He has never lied to me. And to be honest, I don’t even know how he would get there.” I also spoke with Gainesville assistant coach Lyn Marsh early Monday morning. Marsh is responsible for taking Watson on his visits, and he said there was never a visit to Auburn planned or even talked about, and that he has also never met Watson’s father or even heard of him being in Watson’s life, something that Miller also said. “He is just not that type of kid to lie to us,” Miller said. “If he has lied to me, it would be the first time in four years. First of all, I have never even met his dad, and Deshaun doesn’t even talk about him and I’ve never really heard his dad mentioned in the last four years. It would be amazing to me if his dad was in the picture. That would shock me, because I’ve never met the man. But what I know is that Deshaun told me adamantly that he was not there.”
