CJ Spiller was the nation's top running back prospect and the top prospect in the state of Florida. No one outside of Clemson, other than Spiller, believed the Tigers were even in the mix for his services. Clemson fans all celebrated on National Signing Day, when Spiller announced for Clemson.
Now, the anticipation begins. All of Clemson was ecstatic with the play of freshman James Davis last season, and now the thoughts of thunder and lightning are on everyone's mind. Spiller's signature may turn out to be the breakthrough signature Tommy Bowden needed at Clemson. Spiller will come in right away, and he will be ready to play. Running backs coach Burton Burns will work on his blocking assignments first, and then after he is capable of blocking, then they will look at how big of a role he will play. Senior Reggie Merriweather has a hold on the two spot behind Davis for now, but it will be hard to keep Spiller's talent on the sidelines for too long. Spiller and Davis should provide Clemson a dangerous 1-2 punch in the backfield over the next two years behind a very much improved offensive line. Freshman Forecast: 2nd Team RB
