Clemson center target Derrik Smits has committed to Yalparaiso according to his twitter account. He had offers from Clemson, UTEP, Ball-State, UNC-Greensboro and Indiana State.
Smits visited Clemson during football homecoming weekend(9-28-13) and was offered while on his visit. He is a member of the Dutch national team and the son of former NBA player Rik 'The Dukin Dutchman' Smits. Smits can face the basket and score and also has decent range for his size. His potential skill set and footwork are similar to his fathers. As a junior, he averaged 10.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 rebounds per game. He also shot 54% from the field and was 71% from the foul line. He is rated as a 3-star recruit by all the major recruiting services. I'm excited to say I've found my future home. For the next four years I will be attending Valparaiso university #Crusaders #valpo
