Clemson assistant coaches David Blackwell and Burton Burns had an great in-home visit with athlete Demerick Chancellor of Miami, FL Thursday night. Chancellor told us that committed to Clemson when he spoke to Blackwell on the phone later that night. He picked the Tigers over offers from Tennessee, Syracuse, NC State, and Rutgers.

The visit marked the end of a long day for both coaches. Burns was in Virginia at Fork Union Military School meeting with Clemson commitments Phillip Merling, Durrel Barry and Elsmore Gabriel. All three remain firmly committed to Clemson.

Burns flew to Miami and the Clemson coaches impressed Chancellor. “I was really impressed with coach Burns,” said Chancellor. “ I have known coach Blackwell for a long time and he calls me all of the time. He is a great guy. But tonight coach Burns was nice to get to know. Coach Burns really made a good first impression on me. He only comes to visit the backs that he really feels can play for him.”

“I have been to Rutgers and Syracuse. I was supposed to visit Tennessee this weekend but I am going to cancel that. I am also going to cancel my Florida visit in January. I will visit Clemson on January 14th,” said the South Florida product.

“I have been leaning to Clemson for a long time,” Chancellor added.

“They impressed me with their academics. The coaches explained things to me. My mom really understood what they have planned for me. It is not a big school environment and I like the fact that I could concentrate on school,” the speedster said.

“Another reason I like it is because I have a lot of family up there.”

Chancellor is scheduled to be our guest on "The Overdrive" Friday afternoon.

On Thursday we chatted with Avery Vogt of Coral Reef High School. Vogt is committed to N.C. State but Clemson will get a visit from him on January 28th. We also were told NC State assistant Doc Holliday is leaving NC State to go to Florida on Urban Meyers staff.
