Babalola Suspension Doesn't Hurt Tigers Against Bulldogs

by -

CLEMSON, SC - Shawan Robinson scored 18 points and Sharrod Ford added 16 points as Clemson beat North Carolina-Asheville 78-59 on Tuesday night.

Clemson (2-0) outscored North Carolina-Asheville 40-22 in the paint and turned 23 UNCA turnovers into 34 points to keep the Tigers a perfect 7-0 all-time against the Bulldogs (0-2).

The Tigers held an 18-11 lead in the early first half, but the Tigers increased their lead to 36-11 thanks to an 18-0 run that featured an intentional foul on the Bulldogs and a technical foul on their bench.

The Tigers’ lead was 47-26 at the break. North Carolina-Asheville who lost 119-55 last Friday night to Texas Tech, got as close as 13 points in the second half helped by a 6 minute scoring drought by the Tigers.

“We started the game pretty well, but once they got up I thought the mindset was this wasn’t going to be so hard,” said Clemson head coach Oliver Purnell. “But it tuned out to be a little harder than they thought.”

Bryan McCullough led the Bulldogs with 12 points and six rebounds and K.J. Garland added 10 points.

Clemson senior forward Olu Babalola did not play in the contest after being suspended from games and practice indefinitely by Purnell for conduct detrimental to the team.

Babalola started all 28 games last season and averaged nine points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
