CLEMSON RECRUITING

Tigers Land Impressive First Commitment

by -

Barry Humphries Offensive lineman Belton-Honea Path 6'3", 291 pounds, 4.9 Barry Humphries has already eliminated a problem that many high school senior football players will be faced with next year. The Belton-Honea Path offensive lineman, a rising senior, recently committed to Clemson, choosing the Tigers over North Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, Vanderbilt, Marshall, and N.C. State. "I chose Clemson because they have a great coach and a good football program, and it's close to home," Humphries said. "When I went for my visit, I was hoping that they would make an offer. As soon as they did, I committed. I won't be changing my mind. Clemson is where I will be going."

Despite having a year of high school football still ahead of him, Humphries has already had a stellar career at B-HP. Grading out a 86 percent with over 40 pancake blocks last season, he was the Anderson Touchdown Club Lineman of the Year last season, was named B-HP's Lineman of the Year, is a two-time all-region selection, and was named all-state as a junior. He is also an all-state performer in track, winning the 3-A state discus title this year, capping an undefeated season. "He has been an excellent player since he was a freshman," B-HP coach Wayne Green said. "I think he would be a success in anything he did. He is just a quality person." “Clemson's first commitment of the Class of 2005 is impressive,” said recruiting analyst Mickey Plyler. “Humphries is a good kid and has a nice upside. I think he will be a center at the next level for a couple of reasons. First, he is very bright and a top notch student. He also has very good feet but perhaps his best attribute is his strength. Humphries has great upper body strength and good leg drive. He will be one of three offensive linemen in South Carolina that will receive multiple ACC/SEC offers. It always helps to get good kids early because they can help recruit throughout the season.” Scholarship Breakdown
