FINE CURFEW SYSTEM
Through two days away from home, Clemson's players have been on their best
behavior. The 1 a.m. curfew has yet to be broken.
Perhaps one reason why is head coach Tommy Bowden's unique way of dealing
with such matters. Each player is allotted money for the bowl trip by the
NCAA. If a Tiger misses a meeting, weight session, curfew or commits any
other violation, Bowden fines the player and takes away part of his money.

"It's $5 here, $10 there. I think $20 is the most I've ever taken at one
time, and that was for something that happened before we even left Clemson,"
Bowden said. "When you start taking their money, that usually gets their
attention."
Bowden used a similar system last season for the Gator Bowl, and ended up
with more than $300 in fines.
The money was donated to charity.
TAKE THE BUS NEXT TIME
An offhand, albeit honest, comment by Woody Dantzler caused a mini-stir in
Boise Friday.
As part of the Humanitarian Bowl activities, each team took a scenic train
ride through the Idaho mountains Thursday afternoon on the Thunder Mountain
Railroad. The 2 1/2 hour trip apparently didn't excite Dantzler, who said as
much to a local television crew interviewing him during the ride.
"I'd rather be home taking a nap, honestly," Dantzler said.
The comment made for talk show fodder Friday morning, but seemed to be
forgotten by the afternoon. No mention of it was made during the Humanitarian
Bowl press conference.
BETTER WEATHER
Though the long range forecast still calls for additional snow by the time
Monday rolls around, Friday proved to be relatively mild.
After working out the previous day under overcast skies and in temperatures
hovering around 20 degrees, Friday's weather was sunny with highs in the
upper 30s.
"Today would be a great day to play football," Bowden said. "It might not be
good if you were standing around, but it would be great for those guys
playing."
NOT ENOUGH BEEF
After putting down just over 189 ounces of prime rib in its portion of the
Beef Bowl Wednesday, the Tigers learned that Louisiana Tech's trio of
participants topped the 190 ounce mark.
The total difference? Just .35 of an ounce.
UP NEXT
Clemson has its final full practice at 9:30 local time Saturday, then takes part
in the Mayor's Luncheon at Boise Center on the Grove.
The team is scheduled to go snowmobiling later in the afternoon.
