CLEMSON FOOTBALL

TSL: Crosby Leads Tigers Over Cavs

by - Contributor -

Each week TigerNet will be providing a computer simulation of the upcoming 2001 ACC football season. While the focus will be on Clemson we will be able to predict the winner of the ACC title as well. Enjoy!

CLEMSON -- Clemson fans knew Roscoe Crosby was something special. On Saturday, Virginia fans learned it too. Benefiting from the double coverage shown much of the day to sophomore Clemson receiver Kevin Youngblood, Crosby shattered the Clemson (4-0, 2-0) single game receiving mark with 230 yards and scored three touchdowns, turning the 41-27 victory over the Cavs (0-3, 0-1) into a coming out party for the Tiger freshman.

Crosby started Clemson’s scoring in the first quarter by hauling in a 43 yard heave by senior quarterback Woodrow Dantzler, leaping over Virginia junior cornerback Rashad Robinson at the Virginia 30 and then racing into the endzone. In the second quarter, Crosby struck again, this time grabbing a pass over the middle and zig-zagging through the Cav secondary until he broke into the open and found the endzone 64 yards later.

The offensive line shut down the UVA rush.

A 17-6 lead at halftime by Clemson was quickly pushed to 24-6 in the third quarter by Crosby’s third touchdown of the day, a fade pattern into the corner of the endzone from 5 yards out.

The fourth quarter turned into a shootout between the teams, with both team scoring on each possession. Tiger senior Travis Zachery, sophomore Todd McClinton and sophomore Aaron Hunt contributed points for Clemson as the Tigers racked up 504 total yards on the way to the victory.

Clemson travels to Atlanta next week to take on Georgia Tech in a key ACC matchup.

SIMULATION NOTES

For each Clemson contest the game is simulated 10 times using Madden 2001 for the PC. We then average the scores and pick the one game

that most accurately reflects the average game.

We worked hard to make the simulations are as accurate as possible, but there are some things that

we can't control. Consider the following:

1) Quarterbacks rarely run in the simulations.

2) Based on the info we have, the rosters and depth charts used in these

simulations are OUR interpretations. While other schools have NO true

freshman playing (mainly because we are not as familier with them as

Clemson), Clemson has some, including Roscoe Crosby.

3) NFL stadiums and rules will be used.

4) Players do fatigue, but are seldom replaced. What we try to do with

teams like Wofford is use Zachery for one half, and then use Kelly and

Rambert for a quarter each. However, in a game against, say, FSU,

Zachery might end up with 30+ carries.

5) Teams will use NFL playbooks. We've tried to find NFL playbooks that

most closely mirror college playbooks.

6) Obviously weather can't be predicted. Every game will be played in

fair weather.

7) Injuries can't be predicted. They DO occur in the simulations, and

we keep track of them. If Matt Bailey breaks his arm against FSU in

the simulation we chose to use, he will not appear for the rest of the

year.

8) Simulations are meant for entertainment only!!
