Boyd using spring break to get better

To most college students and even college football players, spring break means beaches, parties and time away from the grind of classwork and the football field.

Boyd arrived and began his work on Sunday, and Wednesday will be his last day, and sources told TigerNet that the Boyd family wants to make sure Tajh gets home from California in time to rest up for the start of spring practice next week. The source also told TigerNet that the workouts were approved by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Boyd proved his work ethic a year ago at the end of spring practice, knowing he had to work to get better. As a result, he stayed on the Clemson campus all last summer and worked with his teammates, vowing to never feel lost on the football field again.

The results spoke for themselves – Boyd completed 298-of-499 passes for 3,828 yards and 33 touchdowns, and was even mentioned in some of the mid-season Heisman Trophy talk.

Boyd, however, told people around Clemson that he didn’t want to waste time on his spring break, and instead of taking advantage of the break from spring practice that spring break provided, he went to California in an effort to better his game, where he and Jones are getting 1-on-1 workouts with Whitfield.

Whitfield even bragged on his pupils on Twitter Tuesday, saying, “Tajh Boyd and Landry Jones are spending their spring break grinding what are you doing?”

Whitfield is of course known for training quarterbacks – he trained Cam Newton before last year’s NFL draft, trained Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger during his suspension in 2010 and has worked with some of the eilte high school quarterbacks in the nation.
